151 rails on my sled

I was thinking of putting 151 rails on for 144 06 switchback. Anyone know if I just have to change the rails or are there other parts i would need. Would I be better off just extending my 144? Anyone have 151 rail they want to sell me?

I'm doing the same thing. I had no luck finding used 151 rails anywhere, and OEM rails new are quite spendy, so I decided to get rail extensions

I did find that Iceage makes aftermarket rails for $350 which is better then pol. Any idea if its just the rails that are longer or are other part differant? It looks like a lot of work to change the rails.

Its not a lot of work, I just polished my rails and it is quite simple. After removing the skid assy from your sled, its easy to remove 1 rail at a time from the skid, just pay attention to the washers that are located between the rails and the skid to be sure it all goes back together the same way. I removed both shocks upper bolts to remove any pre-load in the suspension before i started removing the rails.
I spent a few hours recently staring at Polaris parts fiche's for 2006 RMK's and Switch's, and the only parts I can see on the skid needed to go anywhere from 144 - 166" are the rails and sliders.
You have some options with rail extensions as well, some are very nice and will allow you to extend your slider to the back of the extension.

This is correct. I bought a salvaged 06 755 rmk 144 last year that had bent 144 rails. I purchased 151 rails and just swiched it over. My sled had two holes in the rear suspension mounting bracket. The 144 mounted in the front hole and the 151 mounted in the rear. Tracks usa makes a really nice extension if you go that way which will allow the slides to cover the extension. I have never broke a set of those. If I would have known about Ice age last year I shurly would have bought rails from them. I dont like the factory rails with the tip up rear and they were spendy.

Also, I highly reccomend changing gears to a 19/41 set up. You can use the same chain as you have now. This may have been the biggest improvement I have seen out of my sled for approx $75 bucks.

I don't know what gearing I am runing now but its somewhere between a trail sled and a RMK. I rented an 07 600 RMK last your and it was great in the powder but wouldn't go much faster then 65 or so. I rode a edge the year before my sled was geard more like that. I think I will try the stock gearing and see how it gos. If I top out in the 60's my girl friend will beat me on her 550 fan. Any Idea what the max speed would be on a 151x2 inch track? I don't what it to fall apart. Which would be a better track a pol IV or a challinger? The pol IV are like $400 right now. Challingers are $585

Oops. 19/42 is my recommended gearing for the mountains but you are right you loose trail speed. Probly 65 or so tops. On the tracks I have a series 4 on my rmk and it is good in the powder. Kind of a soft track. I also have a challanger on my old skidoo zx that really works great in all conditions. Had it to do over I would have a camo extreme on the rmk as well. Check with tracks usa to see what they have for sales right now.

I try to get as much off trail rideing that i can but is about 50/50 at best. I have seen a few people out here runing challingers but no POL IV. MY friend out west had a IV on his sled and it lost paddles. The IV is a lots less but if the Charlinger last longer I be better off paying a little more.

If your '06 Switch is a 900, stock gearing is (25/40 78p chain)

I can't see stock gearing working well with a 151x2" paddle track. I am no gearing expert, but I don't believe you will be able to use either of your stock sprockets or chain to achieve reasonable gearing for the track change you are planning.

I would wager that stock gearing for an '06 900 RMK will be fairly close to where you want to be. (20/41 with 76p chain) Hopefully someone with more gearing experience will chime in, or you can do some searching... there is a few good gearing charts, and top speed calculators on here.

19/41 is a good all around combination, that's what I have on my 800 EDGE and it will top out at 85MPH. As far as what a series 4 track will stand up to, I can't really say. 19/42 will give you a little better bottom end torque for off trail riding but will still pull reasonably well on the trail.:beer;
