15" wide vs 16" wide??? Flotation diffs??

When I went from a 15" track to a 16" on my KK I noticed a big difference in flotaion and could not tell any difference in carving and sidehilling. That 1/2" of track width is a pretty small amount of resistance to tipping.

doesnt a narrower tire on our trucks handle better in the snow (pizza cutter) than a wider tire? so says the tire shops,so wouldnt a narrower track be better in the snow?just a thought

The narrower tire thing is based on the a base you are trying to get to.

Here is a narrow track I used to have....check out the track speed, btw GPS will verify it was NOT on a stand:beer; OH yeah and this was climbing in deep pow;)

I have had both as well and honestly I dont think I can tell the diff. 16 wide is not a big advantage in climbing, and 15 doesn't layover that much easier, I think its just a bunch of marketing hype. when skidoo released the rev summit in 04 they compared the 144 x 16 to a 159 x 15 sorry just not the case. I poured alot of $ and track combos at the rev chassis trying to make it do what my buddies well set-up Vertical Escapes were doing and it was a 159 x 16 that compared to a 159 x 15. Honestly I think the best track I had on the rev was a series 4 , 2 1/8 , 159 x 15. If the 16 made a big diff then these xp s should be kickn my arse and honestly it just does not happen.

i am not going to say that picture is absolute b.s. (although it is really hard to believe) because I do not know the circumstances, but don't try to tell me you got 120+ m.p.h. just because you are running a 15" wide track

If speed is what you want, why would you even consider a 2.31 lug? or even a 2" ?

BCB

in a 146" 2.86 pitch, it our only options, except for the 1.75 ripsaw. would like to stay with the challenger. in my application i need flotation, decent lug height, but not to sacrifice too much top end speed.

basically just wanted to hear what everyone thinks of the diff between 15/16 wide. i've had both, but not on the same sled.

What kind of riding are you doing. Personally I think it is a wash for you. The 16 wide will have better floatation ( that you want ) and the 15 will have more track speed ( which you also want ). Pick the one that it ths most important to you. Length for length the difference in track speed is minimal. Worth it to you who knows. The same goes for the floatation.
