13 Pro vs 13 XM

Over the yrs I have owned and rode all brands. I've jumped from an M to a dragon to proclimb to a pro with no problems. Get on and go. I've never had success with a Doo. They are completely different. Snapped the steering post on my M in Revy two yrs ago, rented a pro and had a blast. Tried a 800 proclimb last yr and loved it. SLP kit on it and spanked all the other manufacturers machines I ride with. This yr have a pro and love it. Had a lean issue in Revy this yr and melted it down. While waiting for parts rented a XM. Hated it. Unpredictable handling, had a mind of its own,by end of day could control it but nothing like a cat or Polaris. It trenched like crazy,I was stuck on flat ground and going downhill. I have never been stuck so many times in one day. It does handle better than the XP but not much. I had to track poach to get anywhere in the deep. Just my experience, but it was enough to convince the guys in our group to stay away from Doo.

I have to agree with the last post. I had a chance to borrow a good friends new XM for a day, I needed a third sled to take my wife out for a sunny days ride with my son and I. The snow was thick and crusty. We found a pretty steep hill that I took his sled across. I could not believe how hard a time I was having keeping it on its side. It wanted to flop uphill or downhill. I made it, was not the prettiest but compared to the last time I rode it in good snow I could not believe the difference. I said it had to be the poor snow conditions. I went to the bottom of the hill, told my wife I needed my sled and went back up the hill a little higher and steeper than my last track. My 13 Pro cut through it like a knife. I could change the angle of my sled an inch or two at will. What a difference. I could care less what sled my buddy rides as long as I have a Buddy to ride with. For me they are not even close. But the key is just ride. Cat Doo or Poo go out and have fun.

I have had the chance to ride an xm twice now. The first time was in a couple of feet of powder. I thought it was a lot easier to ride than the xp I had tried the year before. Actually thought that I could see myself riding this vs my pro if I decided to switch teams.

That opinion changed today, big time. We had less fresh maybe 10 inches. I couldn't believe how horrible the xm handled compared to my pro in those conditions. The whole time I rode that thing it fought everything I tried to do. A simple side hill on my pro was a major challenge on the xm. It would keep trying to point the nose up hill and was very unpredictable.

Personally I like the throttle response on my pro a lot better. The snap on the pro is way better than the etec on the bottom and mid range. The pro does fall flat on the top end though where the etec keeps pulling.

After spending time in less than ideal snow there is now way I would consider an xm at this point.

I am also not brand loyal. I used to hate Polaris like you wouldn't believe when I had my Honda quad. Their atvs at that time were junk imo. But the moment I rode the pro I knew they had a winner so that's what I'll continue to ride.

Concerns me......both days I rode were perfect. Several feet of fresh Washington powder (sorta powdery anyway). I guess I'll have to try and ride one again in the crap we are getting now. Before snow check time.....

Funny about the Polaris ATVs of old. They were junk. However, I had a 10 RZR 800 which I liked a lot. It was pretty bulletproof too. I now have an XP 900 that I love. It is light years better than the 800 in every way. You can do a lot to them but they are damn good stock. I would like to see Polaris get the reliability of their current crop of UTVs in to the 800 Pros. Maybe someday. I know that they sell a lot more ATV/UTV machines than they do mountain sleds so it stands to reason that they put a little more R&D into them. They also aren't a fancy chain saw motor with a rubber band like a sled. Mountain sleds get abused. None of them last very long without lots of repair/replacement with the exception of the Yammies which aren't really mountain sleds unless you put a hair dryer on them.

Mountainhorse,
Awhile back you said you were gonna spend a good amount of time on a XM... Care to share your thoughts?

It is common knowledge that the pros ARE NOT RELIABLE!

I don't usually jump in on these brand holy war conversations, but.....

I have had a number of new and used Polaris sleds (including both a 12 Pro and a 13 Pro). I have never had a single one break down or give me any issues. However, I had an XP that broke down multiple times. I have never had to tow a Polaris out, but I have had to help rescue and tow out an eTec Doo though.

Not trying to bash any brand, just responding to the "common knowledge" assertion that was thrown out there. What's common knowledge to you may be different than what others have experienced.
