10w-30 oil in a diesel

I sell 10-30 diesel grade Shell Rotella motor oil in which most of my customers are running it in their 3126 CATS and their 5.9L and 8.3L Cummins engines(Logging Equipment,Graders, Excavators, etc.) with no problems and they swear buy it, but I have never run this oil in a diesel pickup, only 5-30 synthetic so I will post another one up for 5-30.

Valvoline premium blue extreme 5-40 synthetic in my 6.0 and it loves it. Started good not being plugged in before, but just a bit less angry with a 5w to start.

Mobile delvac1 5-40 full synthetic diesel oil. Hard to find and expensive. You can really extend the change interval with this oil making it cost effective and winter starts are much improved.

Ford tells you to run the 10-30,especially in the winter. The injectors in a 6.0 & 7.3 operate off oil pressure, so they start way easier and it's not so hard on them in the cold.

I run Amsoil 5-40 and when I head to North Dakota I bring a Honda 2000 generator along and plug the truck in for 2 hours starts great. I have even riden back to the truck and pluged it into the gen at lunch so it starts easy when we leave. I chain the gen to the front tow hook and have even come back to the lot to find another truck plugged in to my gen.

If I were to go to synthetic,,,,,,how many miles are you going between oil changes?

I uses Amsoil 15w-40 heavy duty synthetic oil in my Duramax with no cold starting issues even it started at 35 degrees below zero at Upper Michigan after leaving truck outside over 10 hours without plugging in. I have not plugged my truck once at all. Knock on wood........ My oil change intervals is between 7500 to 10,000 miles or once a year whichever comes first and driving conditions.

Another vote for the 0-30 oil. Depending on how much you drive and let your truck idle as to when you would change it. As other people on here have said 10,000 miles or 250 hours if you let the truck idle a lot.

With full syn. you can go 10,000 easy.
More if you install a bypass filter. Syn costs twice as much but lasts twice as long, so it kind of comes out in the wash. Many like syn because it makes the truck run better though.
Whatever oil you run, just make sure it's diesel rated.

5w40 rotella synthetic

I have a 06 duramax since new have run 5w40 rotella synthetic in it year around starts like a dream in the winter no problems with it 45000 + miles on it. Team Hiline Brad!!!

We run 0-40 synthetic in all our diesels from field tractors to highway trucks.

Equipment starts so much better in the winter now, and tests show equal or better hot condition lubrication than the 15-40's we used to run.

More money but always ready for use.

Thanks guys

Well,, switched to teh 5w40 rotella full synthetic. I also changed the oild in the HPOP res as well

All I can say is it is a night a day difference. Trucks starts and its initial warm up is like it is 70 degrees outside. Glad you all talked me into it

Thanks again for your help!!!
