1085 psi reliablity

anything with the name psi.. is like pulling the pin on a hand grenade.. you never know when its going to blow... IMO... Had a couple different psi motors.. however neither were a 1085.. wasnt impressed with them.. and hard to get parts when something does go wrong

I have a good friend that had 2 PSI 1085's. First one in a Polaris, second in a Crazy Mtn. He had a $hit load of trouble with both. First one he thought he got a lemon. Threw a wad of dough at them including big air carb's & frequent rebuilds. Had 2 different mod shops go through his last one. Bottom line he couldn't run with a Struthers 910 so he put in a 910 & shed a bunch of weight.
My take is that Kalhamer is a talented guy but marital problems along with too many complicated intro's sunk his ship. He might have benefited from less projects with better quality,

I've had good luck with my 1085 and 890.

Adjustments include supplemental water cooler, install and always watch the water temp gauge, set the dial-a-domes at mild compression so not having to use pump/race fuel mix. Dont mess with advancing the timing too much. Go with the PSI recommended ignition which I believe is the XCR 440/Ducati ignition. Use Mikuni rack 40 MM carbs to preserve your net worth and maintain your sanity.

The PSI propaganda that I haven't subscribed to is Water Wetter, Red Line Oil only, expanded fuel tank vents.

I think PSI should have entered into marketing agreements with a handfull of reputable performance shops to handle the sales and service of thier motors. PSI would have provided R and D and manufacturing. They could have done this with CMX, Fabcraft and possibly SLP who was not into BB motors at that time. Some select Polaris and Arctic Cat dealers possibly too.

We have ran several of their 995's and 1 -1085's a couple years back, they are a good motor, but you have to know how to take care of them. A ducati ingition is a must!!!, along with a good U or W cooler in the tunnel. There carbs are ok with the later slides and needle jets. But the cutler 48's worked the best on both these motors. One of our 995's in a fabcraft chassis back in 2002 was as good as it could get back then out in Cooke. Let's just say, if you know how to build them and take care of them you will be happy and so will the motor.

PSI Moved out West to Ogden Utah about a year or two back.

Divorce, liquidation, relocation, fresh start. That sorta thing.

I am with most here and after having had a genesis motor ...would NEVER have another one....a very EXPENSIVE mistake for not much more go 4 stroke and boost and have some real fun without all the BSI associated with bruce:o

Like was said earlier these motors are not for the average knowledge snowmobiler. I've have three 1085 motors and have had some issues. I believe if you start by talking with guys that have them and know what works you will be far ahead and can expect reliability and awesome performance. Nothing against Bruce, but I could not make his motor, clutching, or fuel parameters work. It was a long process but I have an awesome motor now. If you end up with the motor talk to the people on here with 1085's that work. I would be happy to tell you what has worked for me Thanks Ross.

we've been running one in a cmx chassis for three season's now, other than two reed cages, we've had zero problems with the motor, tons of power... we always premix it a little on the rich side to be safe but never burned down and relativiely easy to tune

crank issues

Have a buddy with a 990 PSI, he stopped riding it because no one wanted to pull him out, PSI motors based on a Polaris engine, he spun numerous crank ends off...Polaris' archilis heal.

I have been running a PSI 1010 for two seasons and have had no problems what so ever. I have no reason to call PSI as I took the jetting and the clutching in to my own hands. It seems to me if you are going to buy a mod motor you should at least know how to take care of it. There are mod motors all over the world and each one has to be set up different for alt, fuel and ect. It seems a little harsh bashing some one over a used mod motor that you elected to buy. Just my take on things
