10 most important mountain sleds since 94

I figured this would be a fun shoot the shizz topic. I figured 94 would be a good starting point since thats when the mountain segment took off.

94 summit 583: A far cry from the lightweight machines of today, but it implemented the use of long tracks, narrow ski stance and altitude compensation.

97 rmk 700: The machine that started the lighweight twin revolution

00 rmk 800: The mahcine was hampered with issues, however it started mountain snowmobiling's most popular class.

03 rx-1: In stock form it was not much of a mountain sled, but could make big power with boost.

03.5 summit rev 800: This machine was a huge step forward in chassis design.

04 king cat 900: This machine was a huge leap forward in arctic cat mountain sleds.

05 m-7: The start of one of the segments most enduring chassis. The m-series have been a dream for mods.

08 summit 800: 430 pounds, 150 hp. First stock machine to break the 3 pounds per horsepower barrier.

09 summit 600 e-tec: This machine showed that two strokes can still be viable with the epa regs.

10 nytro: Eventhough the machine came out in 08, the 2010 was far and away a better mountain machine. Yamaha's best stab at a four stroke mountain machine.

Thats my take. Would be curious to hear everyone elses.

lol

you can't even get guys to agree on one sled in the same year...you want to shoot for 10

how about year by year

I figured this would be a fun shoot the shizz topic. I figured 94 would be a good starting point since thats when the mountain segment took off.

94 summit 583: A far cry from the lightweight machines of today, but it implemented the use of long tracks, narrow ski stance and altitude compensation. but this had problems as i remember the early 583 ate plugs like none other. what about the 670?

95 wasnt this the first year of the rmk? and the first mountain max?

96 doo went to the s 2000 chassis and it handled awsome i had 2, and the 900 mountain cat couldnt be touched with a little work

97 rmk 700: The machine that started the lighweight twin revolution doo had already been there and now has stock modified summit x, cat had the powder extreme 600 snappy little bastard, cats battery less efi, also the powder special

98 come on summit x 144, remember all the jokes how you could land an airplane on the tunnel extension!

99 if you claim 03.5 rev you cant forget the 99 mxzx 600. man i miss that one

feel free to add more

Waitin' for the 2012 "Proetecataha" the ultimate Hybrid mountain sled, something we can all agree on. :face-icon-small-ton

I'm willing to drop back a decade and put a fan cooled Phazer on there. Likely a 1990 which is when I think they started the Phazer II option which added the 136" track. That started putting people off the trail without getting stuck. In my book, everyone has been chasing the lightweight, higher flotation and fair power to weight ratio ever since. I think the newest offerings are finally reaching their prize. Not sure which other sled to bump off if you are seriously thinking you will keep the list to just 10.

Not in order or anything, but these would be on the list with the obvious others

Indy 500 SKS
Phazer
Exciter II ST
Arctic Cat EXT Mountain Cat
Polaris Vertical Escape
Arctic Cat King Cat
Polaris Storm
96 Summit 670
00 Summit 700 151

I agree on the Phazer. I remember when my parents bought one. People were starting to come down from buying the big liquid cooled sleds to get something lighter and more reliable. It was light enough to get up on the snow. Eventually led to the Exciter.

The big 3 were obviously influenced by CMX and prior to that G.O.A.T.
Those two deserve some recognition here.

How about the original "go anywhere" sled, Elan.

Everyone will have their favourites, mine was the 69 longtrack Motoski, (Zephyr), would run circles around a Phazer.

Elan was mentioned, the lightest one was the original "71" we put Alpine tracks, (139") under them!
