10 M8 or 10 D8 ?

Poo has better suspension, engine issues (on some) and the best stock skis I've ever rode.

Cat has great engines, and the worst stock skis I've ever rode. Suspension takes a little tweaking to get where you want it, but not too much.

Poo has ZERO storage area to carry stuff which sucks a lot.

Another option would be to grab a holdover 09 M8 put a slp pipe set on and have a proven reliable setup and be a few grand cheaper. Might not be neck and neck with the 2010 but it should be close;) (Well at least that what I keep telling myself since I picked up my 09 last month):p
Where did you pick your Cat up at?

cats engine is going to be another time bomb, third times a charm with the polaris so the new fix should work well........the amount of time and cost going into this new fix for polaris you would think they wouldn't release it if they wernt sure that it will work

Are Serious, that is the dumbest thing i have heard on this whole thread. Arctic Cat has the best 2 stroke motor ever made.

800 xcr is the easy win for best 2-stroke motor ;)

I would say whatever sled you can get cheaper since they're both great boondockers and climbing ability is really close between them if you ditch the crappy 5.1 track on the poo.

Cat has been behind the poo in the power department so it needed the boost just to catch up. I really hope the motor is the powerhouse they claim it to be but I'm not holding my breath.

The D8 will have a more refined suspension but its not lightyears ahead by any means if thats a big deal to you.

Absolutely love my D8! I can carve, sidehill and throw it around like crazy! It makes me look like a lot better rider then I actually am! Love the IQ Chassis. My Dad rides the 06 M7 snow pro and it's a nice sled but the chassis seems a bit out dated, and harder to throw around etc. I know they have updated a few things though since then. I would go for the D8. That new motor sounds awesome on the M8, but first year you never know. Bring on the SNOW!

That is a tough decision. The D8 as stated can turn an average rider into a great one. The chassis works well and is extremely fun to ride. Unfortunately, Polaris really falls short with the motor and has made more than just a few dissatisfied customers in the last few years. Reliability on a scale of 1-10 must be a 0. I think the update will get the reliability out of it, but not to a degree that the cat comes with right out of the box. Plus going on the 3rd season we are still finding little things wrong with my D8 right from the factory.
It would be tough to match a Suzuki motor. Idealy it would be nice to put the cat motor in the poo. :D The cat chassis still works really well, but is getting dated compared to what others are now producing. Hey, Burandt can still ride the heck out of them. If I was buying right now I think I would be looking more closely at the cat.

I like the guy who said buy an 09 cat and pipe it and still be money ahead and at about the same performance as the 10. From what I have heard the new motor is based on the 600 sno-pro motor so it should be fine but if you've gotten a chance to be around one that is running you will notice that they shake like an earthquake while idling. It goes away when you rev them up but i wonder if the guys that just idle around all day are going to have issues with theirs.

Just my .02

Yup, I am sure that Polaris' newest fix will work....otherwise they'll just have to discontinue the motor (900) and start over again, again.

What cat motors are time bombs or are you just making chit up as you go?
(I don't even ride AC but still know that this statement is BS)

How can you guys say that the Cat chassis is more dates then the D8! LOL:confused: The D8 is based on the IQ chassis that can out on the famous 900 Poo. They have refined it and called it a IQ. It's not a new chassis and the same age as the M.

Have had rode both the last few years and both are great. To me the D8 is easier to throw over but there isn't the same degree of balance in it. The M8 is more balance and also easy to throw over. Must be the fact that the weight is carried lower. Both are great sleds and you can't go wrong with ether one. I would go with the cat because of reliability and the better balance. You can side hill forever with ti. JMHO. Good luck with your decision. :beer;

Heres what I chose

You are very correct. :beer; Not sure why I felt the Cat is getting dated? Maybe just not as many updates or doesn't get as much press? I rode one last year and it just felt a little lazier when trying to tip, but still very close to the IQ.
I know we were just talking about it at work the other day that we were hoping Cat would have a new chassis in the works. Perhaps we were just getting ahead of ourselves thinking it is older than it is.

I hope not. Why change something that works so well? the m chassis is one of the best for backcounty riding. Hope they don't change it anytime soon. IMO

stock to stock?

Poo has made some changes on the new 800. New fuel maping, dual ring pistons. The problem was around the mid range and only a small percent had that issue. And of that small percent it was the trail rider that had the problems. I have the 08 and 09 800. both of course get the up date. I also would go with the Poo over the cat, handling is superb. With out putting a good chuck of change in to the cat, the poo with perform on top stock to stock, with same track. Have not seen the cat perform, with the guys that have them until they pump them up. Even then, still not impressed.

Just my two pennys

we rode with MANY 2009's last year all brands, stock to stock the D8 was ALWAYS last, the Doo was first, on his bumper was the M8 (all big tracks)
the stock D8 and the SLP equipped D8 with a big horn air kit were neck in neck however piped or not piped the SLP D8 could not beat my stock M8 period, drag race, hilll climb etc...
However I do carry a tow rope for those nasty dragons!
Polaris certainly has a long ways to go to get their faithfull back, the area Im in was certainly Polaris faithful, now you see everything but.
If Polaris built the best sled out there i still would buy something else, I have watched too many friends get the cold shoulder by them in the past in those dreadful 2005 - 2006 years, only to charge more than any other 800 to their customers for their D8 in 2008!!!! rebates for the 700's but not for the 800's Thats balls!
Now updates for their engines....in my opinion wait at least a year or two to make sure Polaris has their updates done right.
