09 Summit Rev XP 163" question

before the last ride i installed a DJ clutch kit on my xp and was having a hard time hitting any more than 7800 rpm. turn the clickers from 4 - 6 any it didn't really make a difference. when i got home i found a loose spark plug that had been leaking and making a mess. my question is, could this be causing me not to make up the proper rpms, or could there be something wrong with my install on the clutch kit? i am running a rkt head, crank shop pipe and delta reeds.

I guess I would think that the plug being loose would affect it quite a bit. I would think it would leak around there so you really wouldn't have as much compression in that side as it usually has. Just a thought i don't know for sure though.

Just some thoughts.....I'm guessing you didn't leave the plug loose, it loosened itself. Plugs loosen from detonation. Detonation means way down on power. Is this a possibility? What altitude was this at? What comp ratio? What fuel? What RPM do they want to run those pipes at?

Why not ask BJ. I bought a kit from him and he always answered my questions. You could call him and have your answer in 2 minutes. Just my $.03 worth.

i would put the head on before the pipe. i am 99% sure that i did not tighten that plug. no engine light codes and could not here it detonate when i was riding. pulled both plugs and they look exactly the same, with no damage. i had the plugs out after the run before and am positive i missed the one plug. stupid me. any ways i think i have it figured. thanks for your insight boys.

I read that as an insinuation that I don't pick up the phone. I can tell you that is what i do here for most of the day with an average call of 16 minutes. Some guys much longer. If an answer takes 2 minutes then it's because you are "told" what to do and not why. "just do it...BYE!"....next, drive through, come again.
Yep, that would be about 2 minutes.

I would rather discuss all possibilities so the tuner and myself are more educated about the sled.

I like to say that bigrig73 did call me twice and we went through a series of questions about...

spark plug loose (could be from detonation) (could be from forgetting to tighten)
Explained on how I seen detonation loosen a plug off at dynotech on an 800R when testing heads.

dpm (reviewed 2009 problems)

head (experiences with heads that knock and what will happen with a 2009, reveals limp-home mode code #p-1326) (Experiences of how some heads will cause the engine to run "early" and now the engine may want to run up to 200 rpms lower than stock rpm and why)

muffler (put the stock muffler back on to test if will raise rpms due to increased pipe internal pressure)

Thanks for the follow up bigrig73
