09 rmk 700 getting slower!

Bought the sled last year had good power then twords the end of the year seemed to loose some power. My buddy with the same sled 07 dragon could beat me pretty good by then. We were about even at the begging of the year. So this year I put a full slp exhaust clutch kit gears and a pc3 with a map from jim and he still can beat me!! Any ideas? It got 4000 miles and about 125 compression in each cylinder

the only thing he has done is reeds and snowstuff can. so you would think my sled would beat his?!:mmph:

The gears will change your top end, what did you install? Your clutching can also greatly effect performance. Who cares what your top end drag race speed is on a mountain sled, what you want is good track speed while climbing in the steep and deep. My old 2000 700 RMK w/136 will smoke my 2007 700 RMK w/155 on a flat drag race, but climbing is a whole new game.

They are 19/42 gears. New 115 belt and the clutch kit is the slp mtx. Also not sure if the clutches were ever rebuilt? I havent had them rebuilt and not sure abiut the previous owner

The 19/42 slowed your top end right away, stock was 20/41 if I remember correctly. Did you replace the springs in your clutches or were just the weights changed?

Ya I cleaned the exhaust valves but never checked the bellows I just left the assembly together. Maybe the bellows could have something to do with it? And ya I was goin for more low end with the gears. Also I put new spring and weights in

When you pull the exhaust valves, check out the springs on the top side of the bellows. The right side valve spring will be rusted away from water dripping into the little hole in the top of the valve. There is a drain hole in the airbox in the hood directly aligned with that hole in the valve. I siliconed the airbox drain closed and drilled a new drain hole off to the side to keep from ruining the springs every season.
