09 M8 vs 10 M8

What would you guys who have ridden both say about each of them?
Which would you buy?

09's rip and feel a lot better then the 07-08 models. 09's you can mod and they've been proven. That being said the 10' is a stock sled on steroids and it'll stomp a 09 stock and it'll still beat an 09 with a pipe. Get the 10 you should be able to get them cheaper now that the 2011's are out.

Differences

So who knows what the differences are between the two?

I have heard the crank is a lighter weight in the newer. Reliability issues to be concerned about?

Different Compression in the head. Is this just the head itself?

Any others?

I had a good amount of seat time on an 09 HCR last year. My '10 M8 feels much stronger out of the box.

I have been surprised at how strong this new 800 motor gets as you put more hours/miles on it. I just got about 550 miles on this motor and the last 200 miles or so it seemed to be getting stronger and stronger. I cant wait to see how it performs when all the aftermarket single pipes get dialed in!

what he said

engines differences, crank, head, porting, fuel mapping,
about 163.5 HP:face-icon-small-sho

I have owned a 07, 08, 09 and now 2010, 2010 is hands down better, and of course lots of the 09 mods will work on a 2010, and SLP has a new pipe setup to take care of the folks who say a SLP piped 09 is faster than a stock 2010, so now we shall see:face-icon-small-hap

I own both an 09 and 10...

The 10 revs up faster and has more topend. It will climb higher with faster track speeds. That said, an 09 M8 works very well as long as you dont have any 10's with. Both sleds are basically stock.

I spent a considerable amount of time quizzing the SLP boys about the two sleds. They said that their 09 with the perf package will run circles around the 10 with a pipe. I am so tempted to get an 09 and try it out with the perf package..... but then I realize that i am a construction worker out of work... and then I just keep dreamin.

I just had a chance to ride a 10 standard M8 a few weeks ago in Southern Idaho. I switched with a guy I met at a warming hut who had rented it due to a broken sled. He rode my 09 M8 SP with SW full pipe set, custom clutching and revalved shocks. We both agreed my sled felt stronger.

my slp set up 09 lost a couple of drags to a stock 2010 m8. my 10 with slp seems slow, but i havent raced it against my 2009.

My 09 HCR with SLP package will beat stock 10s in a flat race. Seems pretty even as far as hill climbing goes. The 10s run amazing for a completely stock sled.

i was just on the phone this afternoon with slp... they said the 2010 m8 is dyno'ed @ 156 and with there single pipe ,ypipe, can and power cammander 3 set up it dyno'ed at 166 hp ..i cant remember for sure the weight lose but i think its 12 pounds. either sled would be fine with me.

I don't think any of us are ever gonna know the exact hp of the 2010. I've seen soooooo many dyno charts 156 160 163.5 all that which one is it?! Haha.

Actually the only sleds hitting the 163 mark are the F8's as they have a different pipe and mapping. The M8's are pretty consistent in the 157-159 range with their pipe and mapping.

I cant wait to see next years setups as D&D + Speedwerx get more time dialing in their pipes. Not very impressed with anything I have heard from SLP, they seemed to really rush their pipe out.

Stock to stock there is absolutely no comparison. It all depends on what you want. If you want to spend a bunch of money on aftermarket parts, void your warranty, get nothing out of the extras in trade, and fuss with tuning until you get it perfect just to be as good as a stock '10. If you want to pull and go, get a 2 year warranty, and have a stocker that flat out rips and eats stock m1000's on the hill, buy the '10. Buy the '10, put a can on it and ride it! $9,600 bucks for a new '10 M8 std right now at my dealer.

I have a 2010 and my son rides my 09 from last year with a slp pipe and diamond S hood. The 2010 has diamond s hood and hps can. They are pretty much even as far as I can tell. Both work really good. Not a bit of trouble with either one.

I have an '09 HCR with an SLP pipe, y-pipe, and can kit, plus the SLP intake mods. I also installed the MTX weights as well as the 40/36 helix. The clutching is finally getting close and it can get over 8K rpm while climbing in deep stuff above 8000 feet.

Now that you know what I have been riding....

My friend just picked up a 2010 M8 snowpro and it clearly runs better and has a more power than my '09. In a blind test there isn't a person alive that would disagree if they tried both of our sleds on the same hill.

That being said, I think a person would be crazy to buy anything but a 2010 M8 if they were in the market right now. There are some killer deals out there right now so the price isn't much of a factor.

I also have the 2010 m8 162 stock exept for the mbrp can. and my son has the 2009 m8 153 with slp pipe kit, slp air intake, mtx weights, after market secodary torshen spring set up, and its about a dead heat . he installed the v force 3 reeds and now he can edge me buy a little. he's spent aprox. $1300 to make it run with my 2010 stock m8.

in my opinion stock vs stock, the 10 will walk all over the 9, when in doubt that 10 will walk away in the deep powder, like the guy said earlier its on steroids.
