blew my first belt on 09 m1000 only 2 hundred miles. is anyone haveing the same problem.

The 060 belt requires a (ridiculously) long break in.

Other well known causes are:

- bad clutch alignment and deflection
- oli leak from DD
- binding in clutches

Had all the cords hanging out at the 50 mile mark on my first 046. Pizzed me right off and my clutches are aligned, already checked that.

200 miles on one belt! Your lucky!! My first belt lasted 50, and I'm starting to lose strings on the second and I'm at 100, thats after tons of venting and proper belt brake and deflection and I stop and check the clutch heat often and clean the sheaves with a scotch brite and alcohol wipes while riding and when I get home I pull the belt and secondary and clean both with hot water and soap I clean the primary with a scotch brite and actone . I just ordered new gears. And I have been working on the alignment but its a pain to do when your riding with a group, and very embarrassing, new sled with the hood up more than it is down. Plus you get to sit around while everyone else rides so you can let everything cool down. This has to be the worst sled I have ever owned.

Blew my first 046 at 60 miles. It was the day after xmas and I was pushing insane powder all day. Belt blew at full throttle in powder about 2 miles from the truck. I knew I was gambling and I lot :o. I'm at 240 total miles on the sled and about 180 miles on 2nd belt and it looks new. I did break the 2nd belt in and I rode just over 100 miles last weekend, no trail riding, pushing powder and climbing all weekend. Hopefully belt #2 holds......

09 m1000 finger sized hole by the stabilizer tube pointing right at the clutch. some are siliconed, mine was not.

500 mi on a 060 belt, did not break but was wore down a 1/16 from a new one, changed it out, will keep that one for a spare. 08 M1000 219 hp ported out.

What have you done to make your belts last? I'm bone stock,(50 miles on a belt) and there is no way I will attempt to get anymore power out of mine until I can get the belts to stay together.

I ride the 07' so I'm sure there are differences, but I did update my primary this year to the 3 post, and put on the powerclaw. Before doing this I put 1000 miles on my 046 belt without a single prob. I now have 150 miles on my new 046 and it looks brand new. Only diff. under the hood is a l.w. can. I have vented both panels, and stuck a flo-rite in my shock tower pointed directly at the belt/primary. So far so good. Good luck the rest of the season to you guys.

Without getting off topic or sounding stupid can one of you explain breaking in a belt the right way to me. I know about washing them with warm water and dish soap to get them clean but dont know how to break them in...

Thanks,
Kevin

According to the packaging, Ya I actually read it for once, You are supposed to go 20 miles without going over 50 mph, As far as cleaning the belt goes I like to soak it in the sink with dawn, then through it into the dishwasher and set it to pots and pans. then let it dry in a heat vent, that way there in no water left to creep out of the strings when the belt gets warm.

OH OH sounds like an Xp site.Hope everyone gets it figured.
I installed vents on my M7 belt life definitly improved !!!!!!

Same here, pretty much going to put my m7 and m1000 side by side and copy everthing I did to my m7 to the m1000. I havent had an issue with belts on the m7 for a whole season. I changed it out on my m7 just because it was a new season...............

just turned over 200mi on my 09 m1000 and took out my first belt the other day so took it to the dealer and asked to do alinment and make sure everything looked good one mecnic took the bar and looked at it and said looks perfect to me and the younger mecnic looked at it a little closer and found out i had to losen off all my engine mounts and twist my engine it was out almost 1.5mm just shows how things can be over looked quickly. i hope this will help i also bought two 046 belts to try out see if that will make any difference.
