09 IQ Front Bumper Upgrade!

As far as I'm concerned the TCP bumper and the Skinz bumper are two different animals.

One is under $150 and the other is $400+ so it's all about how much protection you NEED.

sorry to get off track with the tcp bumper, this thread is about a very reasonable, much needed upgrade to a very weak design. if we just get it to fit the older models. i know they are working on that, and so will i when it arrives.:)

looks like if you hit something with that tcp bumper you are going to be doing more damage than a few plastic parts. Maybe a bulkhead? dont know but common sense usually tells me that something has to give and more times then not the tree aint going to be the one giving. here is a prime example. Look real close I dont see that tree move an inch.

LMAO

Dont assume you know more about snowmobile than TCP or Skins or Mtnhorse. If you hit somthing hard enough to bend the bulk head with these upgraded bumpers what do you think it would of done to the bulkhead with just the stock bumper? It would do the same thing and take out much more! including your motor.

By the way they both look like very good products not bashing on either one.
Was just looking at the pictures and expressing my opinion and concerns.

I will be ordering the 09 front end for mine just didnt think I needed to install the bumper on top of it, as all I want it for is to be able to pick the front of my sled up, not go look for things to run over.:beer;:beer;:beer;

Then the stock 09 bumper will satisfy your needs just fine then.

New front bumper mod...CHEAP!!!

I got a little friendly with a tree last year so I had to do an On-The-Fly mod in order to finish out the day. Now this mod works great. I will offer kits for $5+ shipping. You wanted a cheap solution now you have one :D :D :D

OUCH

TCP will have two different bumpers out this year.
2007-2008 bumper-last year style same price-limited build
2009 bumper $150 ish price will only fit 2009 sled or sleds with 2009 front bumper.
You guys are all right-You won't need a better bumper until you hit a tree and you double your price.
I try to drive around them, but it happens and I'm sure glad I have it on there when it does happen.
Just what I know-they are both great.

I'm not sure about impact protection, but I like the idea of being able to lift the front of the sled from the bumper again. Not sure how each bumper is put together, but I would assume it would bend and flex before transferring to much force to the bulkhead.

Dont assume you know me or how well I know sleds. Like I said before NO OFFENSE you are buying parts regardless. All I meant is with stock plastic up front you have something to slow you down before it hits the bulkhead. I have seen stock dragons take a pretty good hit to the front breaking all that plastic up front and not hurt anything cosmetic. It just looks like the bumper bolts directly to the bulkhead so therefore nothing to slow you down but the bulkhead. I wouldnt assume that you know how much pressure it takes to bend a bulkhead because if hit just right it doesnt take much. My opinion is that I would rather break some plastic in those minor crashes vs a bulkhead. Yes I agree you hit something hard and no matter what you have, it is going to total it. Anyway it does look like you can pick it up and not worry about your buddy going ooooopppppps sorry buddy!!! Ohh and I am sure that every designer never has any flaws or down sides to their product right?[/Q]

I don't have any idea who you are.

This debate was covered alot last spring and there was so many people that initially took your position and then thought about it and decided that they were initially wrong. I'm not trying to sell you one of these products or even encourage you to get one; I'm just saying that I think you bulkhead argument against them is incorrect.

but yes, designers F-up on designs all the time.

Just stopped at TCP and took a look at they're 09 bumper and it's just an add on to the stock bumper. It has two pieces to choose from top and bottom sold seperately. No price avalibe yet. It rivets onto the stock bumper and the bellypan in the shock tower for the top suport and on the bottom suport it rivets to the bottom of the bumper and then to the bellypan in the bottom in front of the A arm bolts. So all it's strangth is based on the strangth of the stock bumper and the plastic bellypan.
It looks very nice but they have no price yet. I think I'm going to order one from skinz.__________________

Any chance of getting some pics of the skinz bumper uninstalled posted on here? I wanted to take a look and see if it could be retro fitted to an 07. I know that you can get the 09 updates and run it like that but...I just want to explore all my options.

Thanks!

The Skinz Protective Gear family is quite busy making new products for us (sledders) and trying to fill all the preseason orders before the snow starts flying. They just aren't set up to deal direct with the consumer. They would prefer that the customer purchases their products through their dealer network. This includes Paul (Sled Solutions), Team2 and myself (Bob's Cycle Supply) who can all help you out with getting skinz products.
Your local dealer can also get limited availability of some of their products through distributors like Parts Unlimited and Western Power Sports.
Just trying to clear that up and hopefully help some people get the best service when trying to order Skinz products.
Cheers :beer;

Due to the already large demand for Skinz products they have decided to hold off on doing a bumper for the 08 and earlier IQ. Sorry.
