last year the thing was a beast, i mean highmarkin m1000 163"'s, XP's, Dragons...etc. stock with the exception of a Jaws can. it never seemed flat and always seemed to out pull (faster pulls on the hill) i have been so impressed with this sled i have turned into one of "those guys" that brag their sled up. i have never done this with any other sled i have owned. it was THAT good.
over the summer i put on the Speedwerx Y pipe and intake. thats it. i didnt do a control box because i have been told by MANY that i wouldnt have too. the plugs look great (golden brown) the sled does consume alot of oil (near tank to tank).
the DD bearin was just changed, it was pooched.
thats all i got guys. i cant figure out why it seems flat this year. mostly at wot. the rpm is down maybe a 100rpm's. did the Y pipe and intake eff this sled up??! i dont want to spend more money on the thing if i dont have to. any idea's? do i need a control box? clutching? take the Y pipe and intake off? anyone else have this set-up? how is it for you?

thanks in advance for any input!

honestly, with out the full pipe setup and a control box you wont get the full potential out of those parts on the M8, or your clutching is now off. but I'm pretty sure you may have lost some power somewhere with the air box and y-pipe. Try taking one of the two off and see how it runs. I would start with the Y-pipe.

If it were mine, I would start with taking the air box off and put the stock one back on. You may be getting more air with the new box. I think that would be easier than the Y pipe, The stock Y pipe was really flattened out by the donut area. try the air box first. RickM

I would also put the stock airbox back on. Seems the 8 runs the best with the stock airbox setup.

sorry guys...i dont have the full intake kit because of what has been said about removing the airbox. i was told that the stock airbox is the way to go but to swap out the small plastic intake port, and replace it with a high flow aluminum one. so i still run the stock airbox. should have explained that better. i only did the Y pipe and intake because i dont like "mods" i really believe in stock....well motor wise anyways. first sled i messed with in that department and i am not happy. i am going to try and swap back the parts and try it stock again. just wondering if anyone has the same set up and what their results have been....

my m8 with similar mods but also a pipe i had to add fuel on top .. maybe you need a controler /shrug ,,

I'm coming from the complete opposite direction. Recently purchased 09 M8 SP 153 that came with a speedwerx pipe, y pipe & jaws can + boondocker box not installed. I installed the boondocker box and loaded in the settings from SW. First ride at 3000-4000 ft rode great for first 10 minutes, then started bogging real bad until the pto side plugs fouled. Changed plugs and got it to barely run well enough to get me 15 miles back to the truck with error code 2 flashing (injectors). Took sled home, removed ALL boondocker box and wiring, put stock pipe on fired it up and it runs like a scaulded monkey. 2 rides on that setup and it seems to run great (ie with speedwerx y pipe, stock pipe, jaws can) BTW - I have the SW billet snorkel on the shelf that I have not installed yet, and also, the speedwerx pipe and jaws can combination sounds great. But - the stock pipe with the jaws can is obnoxiously loud! Anybody got a SW can they want to sell?

So you are running the Speedwerx setup with no control box. Just curious, thinkin about this setup over the SLP because SW is out of a lower elevation area. Was it a notable gain from the stock pipe setup? I ride between 0-5,000 so i'm curious as to how it runs.

You could just have a sacked out secondary spring. On another note, only do one mod at a time because you can't always beleieve what the after-market guys advertise and sometimes combining two of them makes matters worse instead of better.

By trading out the plastic cone air intake tube thing, for the larger aluminum high flow piece reduces the speed of air going into the air chamber of the throttle bodies, I tried the same thing , didnt work. put the stock cone back in and give it a try. ( I have an aluminum high flow intake tube flowing lots of air up on my shelf gathering dust) . RickM

ding ding ding .....we have a winner!!

new spring every year and yes one at a time!

Hey man i got the same set up basically on my 09 HCR. I have a D&D Y, can, larger intake cup and the only thing different is i have a shift assist and hard rock rollers. Mine is running awesome, ripps so maybe it is a secondary spring issue??? Hope this helps Tundra:beer;

Did you put a new belt on? With my 07 rev I had it running wicked. 2500 miles on one 166 belt so I decided to change it. Wammo. Sled wasn't even close to what it was before. Tried another 166 belt. Ran the same ****. Thaught something was wrong. Put the old belt on. Back to awsome. Ended up running a 383 belt and had to change the clutching a bit. Doos 166 belts got narrower all of a sudden.

Needless to say i'm now on a cat. haven't put a mile on it yet but sitting on it just feels right.

I have to wonder if perhaps your 90 durometer Powerclaw plays into at least part of the equation?

Last spring you would have been kicking tail with that track on the more setup snow. Now, you are probably riding in snow that isn't setup and maybe doesn't even have a base. The stiffer track probably won't hook up as well but, the thing that's confusing to me is, your RPMs shouldn't be going down because of that. That's where the things the others have brought up make sense.

Best of luck

see THIS is why i love these sites. wifey just doesnt get it. heres a dude stumped with my problem....doesnt know me from a hole in the ground, but is trying to decipher my problem. thanks to everyone who chipped in.

you are correct about the snow conditions, but i dont think it would affect my rpm's if anything would it not scream a bit more?

great advice. and i will take it. going to be getting new clutches anyhow under warranty this week. i will be sure to get new springs too.:beer;

Did you say you are going through a tank of oil with a tank of gas? That sounds like you are running a little to much oil. I can run at least two tanks easily with my 800efi mtn cat before i fill my oil.

Yeah, check your oil pump. It is most likely sticking open. There are a few threads on this problem for the 09's.

The two guys above beat me to it. I would start with the oil pump, 1 to 1 is to much oil. take it to the dealer and have them check it or delete the pump and go to premix.
