09 146x, 2 belts 150 miles

What's the deal? Are they trying to push clutches to new limits? Is it the extra HP on new sleds?

I'm blown away to be reading about Doos clutch problems again, before the season has really even begun. Clutches are nothing new. They've been around for ever. You figure that's one part of the sled that would be rock solid. I think I've changed the belt on my wife's Summit 600 once in 8 years, and that's because a friend gunned it with the ebrake on.

It isn't the power, the deal is BRP has seemed to forgotten the basic principals of clutching.

Team makes Polaris clutches and no problems with them other than some sleds have excessive belt to sheave clearance. Nothing like the issues people have with their TRA's. BRP gives the manufacturer(Team) specs and tolerances and Team makes them according to their specs don't they? I think the blame needs to be placed elsewhere(Doo) but maybe I'm wrong.

My 09 154x primary clutch has cast in to it on the inside "made in france"

NO BS... this was new to me after looking at tra's for a number of years, I'm going to have to look more closely at a few older ones now!

Skier

I believe one half is made by BRP (french supplier) and the other half is made by Team. Not 100% but damn close, LOL. Why don't they just go to Yamaha and ask them to build their clutches. The way BRP is going it would be WAY cheaper. *** !

09 vs 08

"What i find even more interesting is a lot of guys have run to the dealers asking for all the new 09 clutching and it is not even proven. It sounds like the 09's are junk as well as far as clutching goes. I took my 08 in to get all the updates done and they had all the 09 clutch part numbers on one of my invoices.

They couldn't believe me when i told them i didn't want it. This is a perfect example of how BRP makes money off the backs of its customers.

There are countless threads on the 09's already amongst the major forums. BRP needs to fire Team and go back to original Quebec based clutch part manufacturer and pay the little extra and get something better for its customers. BRP can you hear me ????"

VERY TRUE...

Had a chance to compare 08 and 09 summits side by side in the steep and deep. I can tell you that the 09 is not an improvement. I didn't even notice any improvement in trail ability with the new secondary reverse helix.

The clutches will run cool if aligned properly though. The clutch side rear engine mount needs to be slotted on some sleds that are out of alignment. A secondary shim kit will work as well.

update, got sled back, 2nd work order

So just wanted to let you guys know what my dealer came up with. The work order states:

"The unit was found to have rollers that had become unable to roll properly due to inner out of round which caused excesive wear of the ramps. The spring bushing had also been found to be gripping the fixed flange's drive shaft excesively.
The rollers and ramps(2nd set) have been replaced with new sets. The spring bushing was bored out slightly as to obtain a better fit to the shaft. The secondary clutch was removed and fully inspected. The secondary clutch was found to be in perfect condition. The drive belt has been replaced (3rd belt) due to having spit large amounts of it's cord out. Unit has 182.2 miles"

The service department told me they worked directly with BRP on this one. They had not seen this before on the 09's. I hope this works, I hate being the guy giving bad news. Thanks to guy who PM'd me about this, I think you saved me a lot of frustration.
