08 XP kill switch problems

Everyone I know has had the problem of snow building up under or inside their kill switch and rendering it inoperable. Also have heard this problem reported on this forum by many others.

I reported the kill switch issue directly to BRP customer service as a safety issue about two months ago. The guy taking the call at first was pretty nasty with me ..."what do you want me to do about it" attitude since I told him I also reported it to my dealer. I told him that I was calling him because it was a safety issue that they needed to seriously look at instead of just fixing my sled, and that if they didn't look into it that it would open them up to a law suit. The guy then gave me some customer reference number, and I have never heard anything since. I guess I need to call BRP back and ask what the status is. My dealer replaced my kill switch at the same time he replaced the grip heaters, but it still sticks when I ride on those bottomless powder days.

I'm asking everyone to take a few minutes and call BRP and report this problem to them since they probably won't do a damn thing about it with only a couple of people complaining about it. If they get a slew of people complaining, it will force them to act. …recall of the 08 sleds and future improvement on the 09 sleds.

Thanks!

we had the same problem and our dealer told us to loosen the kill switch and rotate it forward because there is a drain hole in the front and it doesnt work right if its straight up...cured all of ours and our friends---about 12 sleds

this is the same switch they have been using on our sleds forever(except03.5 rev) what is the saftey issue.if its an emergency pull the lanyard. out west we stack o rings under it so it wont shut off if it's bumped on a long pull. but with that said turn it forward as t.a has said. have fun.

Not the same switch!!! My 05, 06, and 07 have/had the same switch. The switch on my 08 is a newer style that has more of a gap between the base and the cap, thus allowing the snow to get inside.

do the "o" ring deal, one thin ring will still allow the button to stay down if you want it to and keep the snow out, two thin rings will not let the button remain depressed.

I relocated mine under the hood on a 07 and I still have to wiggle it once or twice a ride. It was terrible in deep powder in stock location but still a design problem. I will call !!

north of the border we do not use the court house to solve our problems like other countrys do... might have something to do with his attitude

oring it and never had a issue

What's even more fun is when the snow builds up between the throttle and throttle stop so it won't go under 6,000rpm...then the kill switch doesn't work either

I attempted to pack mine with silicone grease which worked great until I busted it off. The little bugger runs $55, it is now rotated down and back, next I was looking at the parking brake lever sticking up and cut about an inch off of it.

Good Luck

I rotated mine forward from the beginning to avoid bumping it on a climb and have never experienced a problem. Give it a shot.
