hey guys looking for an easy way to put a fuel rack on a hawk. hate being the guy thats out of fuel and headed back to trailer. Also any mods for better handling or performance. As of now everything is stock other then removed the stock muffler due to melting plastic body panel. Thanks in adavance

OK, you've got an '08' hawk, correct? That means it must be an 800 and that it has the 12 gal tank - and you still need more fuel capacity? Various guys have made brackets for holding a 2 gal gas can. The 2 mounting spots for this is on/in the tail section(fender), or incorporated into the snowflap at the end of the track. I'll have to look for where pictures of these can be found, but keep looking through the threads any you may find them yourself.

You should definately get suspension relocation brackets to correct the geometry of the suspension. There are 2 or 3 versions out there. Sledr2 makes one that just relocates the suspension pivot point. TLKD makes a bracket that I believe does that and relocates the footpegs backwards and 1" or 2.

I imaginge the original exhaust was the Matech, correct? Surprised to hear you melted plastic as there are so many heat shields on that thing. What exhaust system did you change to Jaws Gen 1, Jaws Gen 2 or a costum? I'd suggest ceramic coating to reduce the possibility of melting plastic, to prevent the pipe from rusting out over time and for the "bling" factor.

Get an anti stab kit from Sledr2 for $150. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

With an 800, you should also get an engine torque brace from TLKD fo $100.

thanks thunderhawk, I will keep looking for pics. yes it is the 800 i might be wrong on 08 it could be 07 just dont remember its yellow. I still have stock exhaust on it just got rid of the suit case and fab in a can. Also installed attaac carb system, runs way better. Its just hard to find parts and stuff for these machines no manufactures that list stuff for them so we are stuck figuring everything out ourselves.

If it's yellow, it's probably an 07 and may not have a 12 gal tank. Yours may be a 9 gal. Consider changing tanks rather than carrying a can.

Ok, you have the Matech exhaust and replaced the "suitcase" with a pipe or a pipe with silencer.

Anything you could want is readily available, you just need to get connected to "the flock". Several guys have been making mod parts for years. There are many upgrades available, plus any part is just a phone call away by calling ADB.

a lot of the parts are brp parts, find a snowhawk dealer to talk to.the yellow was 07.....I had to aluminum tape up my plastic good after seeing it start melting around the suitcase ,what did you do to remove it,and what difference in performance or sound....

basiclly just removed suitcase and installed a straight pipe section. there is no noticeable increae in noise and not sure if any performance gain either. But no more melting plastic around the suitcase area. Yes i do have the matech exhaust. My dealer went out of business here and its hard to talk to AD from here its like a 10 hour time difference. But u said a 12 gallon tank they would sell? is it a direct fit or is there modifications that need to be done?

Virtually a direct replacement. You just need to cut 2 pieces of aluminum and cut a round hole in the tail section plastic. It's a very easy swap. TLKD has a used one with an after market cap and fuel pickup.

07 800 Hawk

My buddy just put a 12gal on his. Ordered from AD Bovain in Quebec. I love it ,no more carrying his fuel .

Nice to meet you J, we'll have to get on touch and do some riding this year. Its alot more fun to ride with other hawks, 4 to 5 of us from the anchorage/mat-valley area that ride together on a frequent basis. I have been riding hawks for about 5 years now, and have done a chit ton mods to mine and so has my partner. send me a e-mail with your contact info and we'll talk hawks. You can e-mail me from my profile page.

Talk to Thierry about the chain drive he's the only one I know who makes the gears for it, as for the chain you just have to buy one Thunderhawk knows the exact one

That's kinda funny General007, cause those gears are available at any industrial bearing house, and 530 0-ring chain is easily purchase at any motorcycle dealer. And I can put together a complete bolt on kit also. But if your willing to spend a little of your time and do a little research they are not that tough to put together.

There's 3 guys making chain drive conversion kits, CJGodden, Sleddr2, and TLKD.

From what I found when I tried to do it myself was that the gears themselves were cheap and easily obtained. Then the machining that needed to be done drove the price higher than I could just by the finished kit for. Also, there are little spacers for each gear that are needed.

My 2 cents is, why bother reinventing the wheel? Just buy the kit from one of the guys on the forum.

I found the price of a length of chain that would do 2 kits to be much cheaper than buying 2 seperate lengths, (volume pricing kind of thing) so team up with someone and split a length of chain. I've got 86 links of a gold chain available for $110 inculding the rivet link if anyone wants it.

I did not know that many people made the chain conversion oh well. I dont have enough time as it is to start trying to put together my own kit and I like talking to Thierry anyways hes very helpful when it comes to asking any questions I have about my hawk. And Thunderhawk is another great guy here on the East coast with me.
