08 700 rmk won't pull revs and engine cuts out

The sleds been in and out of the shop for 3 weeks dealer keeps telling me that the sled is fixed every time i pick it up, i get it home and nothing has changed. The sled will pull 7900 to 8000 when you first go out then starts to back down to 6900 to 7400 after about 1/2 mile and thats where it will run for the rest of the day. The engine also cut out on its own, it just like you hit the kill switch for a few seconds then it fires up again. The dealer has changed the base gaskets voltage regulator put the stock can back on and every thing else checks out good. The clutches all check out good too. Im riding at 1500ft and thats were im having the problems been to golden twice this year and runs fine out there no problems pulling revs or engine cutting out. Ive tried a pc5 on it and made no difference. Called the dealer after i rode it from the last time they had to say it still wasnt fixed and they basically said dont bring it back cause we dont know whats wrong with it. Im running stock clutching the only addition i have put on is a hps can. just wondering if any one has any fed back

700 cutting out, possible stator issues

1) Sounds like the stator.

When it's "cutting out" can you watch the volt meter on the MFD???

2) or remove the fuel filter and see if you blow through it.

3) possible fuel pump, take an old oil pressure gauge , duct tape it to your handlebar pad to where you can monitor it driving down the trail (or up the hill) and hook it up to the "schraeder valve fitting on the fuel line under the hood by the air box.

Pressure should remain in the mid 50's whether it's idling or at 100 m.p.h.

Hope this helps, please post some feedback

The fuel filter has been changed and fuel pressure has been checked by dealer. The volt meter has droped a couple of times, dealer has checked the stator twice and cant find anything wrong

I have the exact same problems, exact. The dealer is changeing the stator tomorrow, will let you know what it is doing after that.

At Cypress Hills at about 4200 feet it ran perfect. at home, around 2000 feet, pin it to 8200 on first pass and then back off and all it gets to is 7400, engine cuts out to 7000 and i have to ride it at that speed. Otherwise it is like it cuts spark to one cylinder until you get to 7000 rpm and it takes off..

Stator/fuel pressure issues

If the voltmeter dropped as you say, I'd lean towards the stator.

If it's the stator starting to go, it will only show up intermittently, so it may check out good while at the dealer.

Can you possibly persuade the dealer to warranty the stator??????

Regarding fuel pressure, I'll bet they only tested it at idle sitting in their shop, not for any length of time driving down the trail.

Please post some feedback.

dave, might ask your dealer to check both the handwarmers and the tail light harness for shorts to ground..both are very common and will fry the vr and may damage the stator and the ecu...

Will do. thanks. I have been fighting problems for a month, but man do i love this machine. Looking forward to having top end rpm.

I contacted polaris found out dealer wasnt using tec support to fix sled, Polaris is spose to be working directly with dealer to fix sled ill keep yous posted what they find out

Same problem

I have the exact same problem on a 2009 700 RMK with 500 miles on the sled and a HPS can and vents.

Put a new fuel filter in, took it out and seemed to be good, then went for a longer ride the next day and same issue.

I am very interested to see what you find out.

I have a 2008 Dragon RMK 700 with a HPS can and runs much stronger than the 2009... 2000 miles and never any issues.

Hey have the dealer check the throttle assembly inside the housing on the handlebars. my buddies 07 rmk 685 has the same problem but only lets it rev up to 3 grand or so. inside the handlebar area there is a small override slider switch thats on the throttle cable that controls the D.E.T part of the sled. if this piece is not pushing the inside housing bracket like it should the sled thinks it is stuck wide open throttle and makes the sled self shutdown. simple fix but could be the inside of the throttle housing not lined up correctly for CPU to read it right. hope this helps.

I got my sled running a little better but still not perfect yet. I can pull 8000 to 8200 all day now but have a major hesitation around 7500. I cant really explain what i did to fix it just did a bunch of testing. I checked the fuel pressure it held at 64 psi even when it was running crappy. Then i just checked the bar and thumb warmers of voltage and ohms and the air temp and pressure sensor and every thing checked out good. I also moved a wire spilice at least i think thats what it is , it was tucked between the fuel tank and the loop hose for the tunnel coolers.

They replaced the stator on mine (08 D8) but it turned out to be a scored piston, so getting new motor now. Hope that ends it. Motor never did fail, they just gave up and pulled the pots off and wa la, screwed piston.

Stock Can

I put the stock can back on this weekend and still does the same thing, just seems to die out at between 7500 and 8000 RMP's, like it is running on one cylinder.

Check compression 120 in both cylinders.

handwarmers

I had same problems. Stator was bad. After riding with new stator voltage indicator was at high level, turned on handwarmers and dropped a couple bars. I think think there is a short and will check........

Same Problem on 08 700

I also have an intermittent issue that does a "kill switch" type effect. It only happens at part throttle and only after riding for several hours. Once it cools off completely all symptoms are gone. It runs fine at full throttle and max rpm's do not drop - just does the weird part throttle cut out routine.

The dealer replaced the stator at the end of last year but mild syptoms started to re-appear on the first ride afterwards (again, not until several hours into a ride). The cut out got really bad on last ride and I took it into the dealer again. They claim they checked the stator, TPS, ECU, etc., and no problems anywhere.

I am taking it to the snow this weekend along with the dealer. If it acts up again supposedly they will be able to diagnose it on the spot. Will post any progress.

Now I'm having a similar issue, my sled is only pulling 7600rpm,with 7850 spikes, when it should be pulling 8250 with higher spikes. I have checked exhaust valves for sticking, spark plug boots, ohm reading good on exhaust valve system. I do have mild scoring on my pistons, but nothing more then what I had before I put new rings on 300 miles ago. Both cylinders run the same, so I'm going to figure that the reeds are fine. Tommorow I am going to check the compression and check the handwarmer wires. I do know my left hand warmer went out on me, and my tail light doesnt work, just the brake... Any other ideas???? All this on a 08' 700.
