'07 Summit XRS recoil starter

Happy New Year everyone!

I am new to the SnoWest site and hope someone has information to help. I have a 2007 Ski Doo Summit XRS and love it. I have noticed that the recoil starter seems to skip or ratchet while starting after it is warm. Is this a known problem? I assume it should be a warranty item.

Riding this week has been excellent in the E. WA area near Lake Wentachee. We saw large amounts of new snow in the higher elevations.:D The Miner's Ridge area near Sugarloaf Lookout was deep and fluffy. Watch the creek bottoms!

Thank you all for any replies. I have heard good things about the SnoWest forum.

Ski-doo recoils do this alot.Get the problem fixed ( replace sprag or cog in the recoil ) if you leave it to long it will get worse and sometimes it can fall apart and take out your stater.then the machine won't run ( also costs more than getting the recoil fixed ) just a thought......

I had to ressurect this thread because it just happened to me this weekend.
I haven't tried to start it this morning while it was cold but it happened on the hill yesterday.

What exactly is the cause of this and what parts need to be replaced.
I have looked online and in my CD manual but there is no part called a "Sprag or cog"

Is it a lube problem or dirt problem?

Is it possible that the tension on the recoil spring is not tight enough and the part that engages the stator/flywheel part is banging on the flywheel and wearing it down a bit? There was a small amount of noticable wear on the peice that does the engaging, about 1/16" was worn.
This sled only has @ 600 miles on it with a Big John trail torquer kit in it.
(A little more effort is needed to pull it over because of more compression)

I had the starter apart at the beginning of this season because the thing wouldn't engage at all but after cleaning some belt dust out of it and cleaning what seemed to be excess white grease with some debris in it the starter worked fine....for a few rides.
Now it is not catching well and "Ratchets" as I pull on it.
I felt lucky to get it started after pulling on it for a while (It finally caught enough to start).

It ruined a great day of blue sky and some fresh snow:mad:

Somebody has the answer out there!
