06 to 05 900 motor

My dad is working on putting a motor in his 900 and is having problems. He thinks the motor is an 06 and the sled is an 05 and that the 06 motor has 4 injectors and the old motor has 2. I'm just looking for any insight on what the differences might be and what needs to be done to put the motor in.

Get in contact with BIGGDAWG on here, he put an 06 in his 05 this past fall so he knows everything you will need to do to make it work.... as I recall, it was kind of a pain to do...

it is very easy to tell what yr motor he has now..of coarse the 06 is 4 injector and the 05 is 2...if he infact has the 06...its not near a drop in and go setup...BIGGDAWG did this on his sled and he had to modify the oil tank and steering column quite a bit...if he has the skills then its doable..but not easy done w/o time...

plus the exhaust..fuel pump..ecu...fuel rail are all different from 05 to 06

PM biggdawg and get inputs..or he can sell it and get an 05
 
save yourself a lot of time and a big headache get the right motor. i put the 06 motor in my 05 and i won't do it again.

as others have said the 06 is a 4 injector motor an the 05 is a 2 injector motor that is how you tell the diff. check out my photo album here to see all the modding that has to be done to put the 06 motor in used cooke09 for the password

I have an 06 motor in my 05 also. To make it work I slimmed down the middle steering post mount and just moved it over a little bit to fit between the injector and water neck. instead of moving it all the way to the edge of the motor. Then you have to move the bottom mount over a little to compensate. It's a tight fit but it works great, been there for couple seasons now with no problems.
 
on a different note are the 05 and 06 crankcases the same

I believe so.

I think as far as physical changes, only the 06 cylinders were changed (additional injectors and different porting)


But according to babbits parts fiche, there are 2 different part numbers:confused: So maybe not.....:face-icon-small-con

'05 case kit - 2202807 - $475.83

'06 case kit - 2203111 - $397.96
 
If I remember right and I may not, the injectors were in different places on the two crank cases.
 
the cases are diff. the angle of the injectors where they go into the case is diff. and a few other subtle changes
