06 M7 vs. 07 700 Dragon

Ok, I have looked at many other posts here, I am looking at opinions on these two machines for my wife. For starters, she needs electric start. She is a good rider but has a hard time starting the big motor sleds. She loves the boon-docking and some trail riding. She can and will hill climb when the situation is required to follow us, but it is not here favorite. She currently rides an 06 700 RMK, and yes I have had to do all the mods to make it a fare sled. I am just trying to find something a little newer and more user friendly for her. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for opinions and help.

The polaris takes less effort to get on its side and boondock, although I think the M series is a much better trail handling sled. I put a electric start on my wifes 08' 600RMK and its a pretty clean setup, although the battery location is a little tight. I wouldnt rule out the 08'600 rmk since it can be purchased usually for less then the 07' 700 dragon, just need to add some float shocks if shes picky. The M7 you find may already have the floats, so that would be a bonus. Good sleds either way, I would lean toward the 08' though for something a little newer at near the same price.

IMHO, I would say the D7 is a much better overall sled. The power is smoother and seems to be better on the D7 even though both are rated at 140 HP. The M7 had some bog issues that I think were taken care of, but the sled you are looking at could still have that issue. Also, a big issue might be that your wife needs reverse and the M7 doesn't have reverse.

On the flip side, the D7 is a little more tippy than the M7. That could annoy her when she is turning. You have to move your body a little more on the D7 than the more traditional M chassis (more like the Polaris Edge chassis).

I think the M8 is a better more reliable sled. I had the D7 for 3 seasons and it was bulletproof. Never had an issue (that I didn't cause) and it always cranked up on the 2nd pull of the rope. You should be able to get the M7 for a good chunk less than the D7.

I have been riding Arctic Cat for the past 3 years and this will be my first year back on a Polaris.. I think they are both good sleds but what made me switch back is dealer support. I don't think you can go wrong with a M7 or D7 both are good sled.. the D7 should be more stable. M7's don't have a sway bar.. but they have the mounts for one. I personally would go with which ever one you could get the best deal on if the dealer is not an issue in your area.. I wish I would have kept my M7 as a backup sled..
