06 800 Summit X really rips but is this normal?

Bought a used 06 Summit X stock, with 1100 miles and rode it for the first time today. Just switched from Polaris and this is my first REV.
This sled really rips. :D
I did experience a couple problems and was wondering if they were normal.

#1: After any type of cool down the sled seems really hard to start. Also got stuck a few times with the sled on it's side and it would not idle at all. If I let it die it takes a couple dozen pulls with the throttle WO to fire it back up.

#2:Pulls like a tank and the RPMs were hitting 8100 but I could only get about 65 MPH top speed. Is this normal? Just wanted to know before I crack the chaincase and see if it's been geared down.

Love that REV chassis!

Check your track tension, remove boggies (keep front), add ice scratchers, check belt deflection. What track lenght? Should hit 75 at 8-9000' 06 is probably the best year for the REV.

Check your chain tension---if sloppy, open it up and take a good look.

if its pulling hard i'd ck the gearing, they should be 19-45 if its a 159-stock

you might have aready done this but check to make sure your carb heaters are not on

UMMMM.... what!:face-icon-small-blu

It's a 151.
Track tension looks good. Chain tension "seems" fine (is there really a good way to check this without opening it up?)
Runnin' between 6-10,000'.

Any comments on the "hard start/won't idle on it's side" thing?

Thanks for all the advice.

The 06 powerteks were a pain to get started after they flood. Mine took 20 plus pulls if it idled until it died on its side or upside down. Its normal, unfortunately. The 07 800R seems to fire up quicker from the same situation. 06 chains were weak, may want to keep an eye on the chaincase dipstick for small pieces of your chain. I went through 3 stock chains on my 06 and went to TEAMS 3/4 HYVO setup to replace the stock gears and chain. Worked very well. Good luck.

Coming off a poo, the doo will seem alot nicer!!!

But the gearing does sound on the low side.

As for hard starting, you may have a week spark at low revalutions. First i'd check your conections to you spark plugs. Use some petro jelly or somthing to lube the connections, and just for $hits and giggles change the plugs, see if that helps!

theres a little quater turn knob (red) you can turn on so your carbs dont freeze up.

Carb heaters were ON, so was I heating the charge? Turned them off. Could that really account for 10 mph on the top end?

By the way is there a fuel petcock on REV's.

At least I'm relieved to know the hard starting is normal. Will have to keep that in mind for the future.

Thanks again.

there is a small red valve on your pto side near the carbs if it is open the sled will be hard to start after its been running

heated carbs should stay off unless they are freezing up! we found that out the hard way too..lol! the carbs get hot and boils out the gas from the carbs when left sitting for a while....then have to choke it and many pulls to restart!

when your sled is up side down or even on its side most revs empty the fuel bowls which seems like its flooded but it is really out of fuel

hold it wide open till it's running on both
that usually does it for me

1911 - i think he was just pointin the carb heater out for you incase you didnt know

ya i found to give it a little petrol when tryin to start it after flippin over works good.

No Fuel shutoff on Rev, fuel line is buried behind and under airbox. Would be nice I agree.

To get unstuck I roll mine out of the hole quite often, yup pull and pull, my 04 starts alot easier than my 06.

Top end 65 mmmm? If you want to see the gears roll it on the left side and pull cover, you won't have to drain lube. Keep that tension set correctly, one of my yearly PMs is to change that chain, sucks when they break.

all skidoos (every Normal Start)give 1/4 throttle on first pull works every time.. also when tipped over give it full throttle and about 5/10 pulls they flood easy if tipped over very long..if you can hit the kill switch before it dies your better off..

You should have bought mine!!!!!;)(I should have taken your offer;)) My '06 151x has one tooth lower on the top and does 78 mph. Stock it did 89 mph. The REV's don't like to idle too much on their side. Other than that, are you a REV MAN now:confused:
