05 900 rmk temperature

polaris all the way

have 900 rmk 159, have installed slp high flow intake, slp pipe set. i have installed scratcher but sled like to run 150-170F with the scratchers down. just wondering if this is normal or not. not much powder mostly flat land riding. wondering if not normal what suggestion to try and get the temps down...

Mine is running at 130 on very hard groomed trails. It was running hotter so I changed the thermostat and it made a difference. What kind of scratchers do you have?

Deep snow or with an inch or more on pack I run between 128 and 130.
Any packed or groomed trails with scratchers down runs about the same... 130-ish.

Do you have regular wire spring scratchers?
Have you removed the front radiator? or at least re-plumbed the system to eliminate the dead loop through the radiator?

By the way, at 160 I pull over and shovel snow onto the cooler and let it cool down.... but with scratchers I would have to be on GLARE ICE to get those temps.

spring scratchers, front rad removed for the slp high flow air intake and rerouted as per instructions. maybe i should try a new thermostat. anyone with any other ideas?

Tstat would be my first shot, sounds like you have all your bases covered otherwise.

it's running way to hot, definitely change the thermostat before riding it. YOu might try just removing it all together to see what the temps do if you can't get a thermostat right away, although I don't recommend leaving it out long term because the fuel injection needs the engine to heat up to a certain temp to work properly.

I have the metal spring style scratchers, so the diagram with the slp high flow air intake with the removal of front rad is ok, didn't know if anything else needed to be removed or installed to get rid of the dead loop???

Nope, if the rad was removed for SLP airbox, you are good to go, change the T-stat are ride that tractor!

Oh wait........

Did the SLP rad delete kits have that stupid hose union that just bypassed the rad? I home brewed mine so I dont know that kit.
On your coolant reservoir, has the upper hose outlet been plugged off? this is the correct method.

Here's a diagram from the How To stickies. This is how your cooling system should be plumbed correctly. This completely eliminates the rad loop. The upper hose outlet on the coolant resevoir gets plugged off, and the large T-union just infront of the engine on the mag side gets replaced with a straight union.

The SLP kit has that crappy union that bottle necks down to almost 3/8"........throw it in the garbage.

Go buy a Sch 80 PVC 3/4" barbed connector/union from Lowe's or Home Depot and hose clamp (throw away those spring clamps too) the sucker on there.

Ya need good flow. :D
