My wifes sled is an 05 Rev 800 and the pull rope won't engage (to turn the motor over) when I try to pull start it. I have an 05 RT 1000 and I have a shop manual for the RT. It has a fairly straight forward procedure for lubricating the rewind starter and goes as far to say that if you don't maintenance it, you will begin to have the problems I am now having.
Easy enough, however there is a huge difference between accessing the rewind starter on the RT as compared to the 800. The 800 sits behind a part of the tunnel and you can't get to it. From looking at it, I guess you would either need to drill out all of the rivets and take the entire tunnel apart (looks like a huge job) or remove the motor and raise it high enough to get to the rewind starter.
Has anyone done this? Am I way off base and missing something simple? If the book says it is something that needs periodic maintenance I can't imagine them engineering it to be so hard to get to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
