01 mountain cat upgrades

so i just bought a 01 mountain cat 800 for the old lady. its her first sled and she wants to learn to ride. so we took it out this weekend and she hated it. she said it was to hard to ride. she said that the seat was to slick the floor boards were slick and the handle bars were to low. so i need to upgrade this things but i want to do it with out spending to much money because if she doesnt like it then im going to have to sell it. so if any one knows of some cheap fixes for this that would be great.

I have an o2 800 and its a lot of sled for most guys. I think the dry weight is 550 lbs. You can put an 1m seat for probably 100.00 have to cut the plastic away from tank to install 1m seat. Not a big deal that will save you around 10 to 15 lbs. You can go with a 2 in. riser with out having to lengthen any lines. An aftermarket can will save you another 8 to 10 lbs just do not get and MBRP for it. Can she start it on her own?

yea she can start it but thats about it she complains about the running boards and bars. the seat was armor alled and was slick so im sure it will be fine. if she doesnt like it then i guess she will just have to stay home.

I would try and find a deal on a used M, they are a lot more rider friendly. The amount you would spend to change this one, you could re-sell it and but the upgrade money in to a M6 or M7 and she would probably be much happier.

Thats if you really want her out riding with you.:face-icon-small-hap

Try a 2in riser.

Also if you can get a high rise seat they make it a bit better for sitting down.

Get a set of better boards or something to open up the running boards and keep them from filling with snow.

Don't know for sure what kind of edge grips are on the 01. But you might look at replacing them with the new ones like they 04's have. You can just cut them off and put on the newer ones. They are good and grippy.

Try a set of simmons skies. They will help a bit with any trail riding.

Also make sure you suck up the limiter strap. Those sleds like to transfer a lot and then they loose the ski pressure. Thus they require a lot of body english to keep them on the trail when on and off the throttle. Suck up the strap a bit and keep the front end down willl help with that.

The 01 800 is a heavy sled. My .02, way to much weight for a new rider and you will spend more than its worth to try to make it usable for a new girl rider. Best bet is to sell it and look for an M6/153 or if she is small an M5/141, if that's to much $$ look for an 03-04 M1 600 mountain cat/144. These sleds will be way more rider friendly.

I bought an 02 800 for my daughter a couple years ago. We were planing a sledding trip and I was in desperate need for a sled for her. I thought it was to much for her but with her 18 years experience I thought she could handle it. She has been riding her own sled since she was 6. It was the only thing I could find that was decent at the time. She rode it one day, said she hated it. It sat for the next two days, nobody wanted to ride it. Sold it a week later and found her an 04 600 MC.
