Pro RMK / Raptor shock setups / notes------

For those of you who are running the Raptor shock package on the Pro RMK, I’ve got a couple questions. I did a search but came up a little short, so here goes.

I picked up a set of Raptors and I’m wondering what some of you guys are running for set-ups along with your weight and riding style and conditions. Also what springs you might be running would be helpful as well (standard or firm).

It would be nice to have a good starting point instead of just the general “start here” position.

The sled is a 163 and I’m 6 foot and about 235 without gear. So add in boots, avy pack, bibs, coat, helmet and tunnel bag on top of that. I have both Raptor rear springs, the standard and the firm, so I can switch out either way there.

I spoke with Jake at Raptor and he suggested just starting with their regular starting point but I thought I would see what has been working for some of you guys. I would also be interesting to see what did NOT work out so well, so we can have a running log of pros and cons with different set-ups.

Jake also suggested that if I were to stay with the stock RMK Walker Evans shocks and want to upgrade just springs, then with my height /weight combo, the “firm” spring would be the way to go. Now, if I were to upgrade to a complete set of Raptors, then he suggested to start out with the “standard” rear spring.

I'm 185 lbs geared up. Standard springs. Have my rear shock spring 1/4" tighter than the starting point. And front shock spring on starting point. Both skid res 7 clicks on normal pow days. 10-12 on hard pack days. Front shocks spec on springs with 5 clicks on pow days and 8-10 on hard pack days. Been working well for me. 155 track. Full raptors all around.

I just installed my raptors 14 pro 163. 260 lbs with gear on. Have not rode yet, but have rear track shock set 3/8 tighter clicker on 8, front track shock, spring at start rate but clicker on 8, front shock start rate, clickers on 6. Base spring in rear.

At 260, I'm really curious to see how the "base" spring does.

I have the rear skid 3/8 tighter than starting point and clickers at 7/8 ish. Any more and it gets real bottom resistant. Front skid is left at his starting point. Front shocks are 3/8 tighter and clickers at 4/5. Best ride I have ever been on by far! I'm about 215 geared up also. 163 track. It amazes me at what a few clicks will do to the feel of the sled. Love em!

Been running raptors and Kmod skid on my 13 all last season. I'm only 165 without gear and ran the fronts a 0 - 5 clicks, and the rear skid pretty close to Jakes/Kevins setting for my weight. Keep in mind that Jake may have changed his valving slightly so what works for some might not work for others. In my case Jake has changed valving and pistons in my shocks.

IMO do what Jake is tell you to do to get a baseline for what he as supplied you. Run your stuff on the stiff side to begin with and go with less compression as required. Play with the clickers and see what works for you and call Jake if you have any issues or questions. He has been awesome to deal with and knows his stuff trust him he will set you in the right direction.

Even at 260, Jake said to go with the base spring, and if it does not work to my liking he will send me the firm spring at no charge. He told me the firm spring on the raptors is for around 300 plus.

I got both rear springs for my pro last year. The heavy duty one is REALLY heavy duty. At 260 just tighten the standard one up and if your bottom to much add a click! That easy.

I have standard Springs, my brother has heavy duty. 13 163s as well. I can grab measurements if you want but easiest thing to do so just try them. Won't take long to find your sweet spot!
