Who's been hassled for overweight in BC?

I have a 3/4 ton and haul two sleds and pull 25ft trailer and am under GVW and never been bothered ( never seen anyone that might check me.

I know of a few instances of guys getting hassled in Whistler. Only seen it happen at night (after bar hours).

I have heard a few storys of some Alberta boys getting nabbed being obviously overloaded with half ton pickups, and things like that. With a 3/4 ton i wouldnt sweat it too much, our DOT in our area can be a bit sticky with lifted trucks, and crap like that, but if it "looks safe" to them, they dont look twice really. Happy riding!

The new scales in golden seem to have checks almost daily. been stopped and weighed and trailer checked over pretty good. That has happened this fall 2 times already so my prediction is they will be out for all the sledders. both times were just before midnight on midweek so its pretty unpredictable. They were also checking for the load rating on straps and unsecured loads in truck boxes.

I use to have a Chevy 1/2 ton shortbox, and hauled 2 sleds on a deck (had airbags) and never got stopped for weight. I even was stopped at a roadblock (checking for impaired drivers) and the cops were only looking at the width of the deck, but after I measured it for them they were all good.

If youre worried about it just pop into youre local insurance place and up youre gvw. It doesn't cost much. Then when youre dangerously overloaded and look like youre out of control dot or cvse can't do anything because youre legal
Actually,they go by the manufacturer's GVW rating.They subtract the actual net weight on the registration from the manufacturer's gvw rating and that is what you can haul.Most single wheel diesels have a hard time packing 2 sleds because of the weight of the engine.BC has an insurance monopoly and while the NDP were in power they put inspectors in with the Weigh scale's and empowered them to have no common sense and create revenue by writing tickets.So if you get a Homo at the scales that has a bad day you could get hasseled.

I called a registry here in Edmonton today, and the girl said that only commercial vehicles have a GVW, for the purpose of scales etc. Anyways, we know this is untrue, but interesting she said for commercial trucks they'll put whatever GVW on your papers that you tell them, but if scales disagrees they can give you a ticket anyways.......huh?

I haven't run into it in the winter yet but on the 24th of May weekend this year they had every vehicle towing a trailer and all the Hillbillie truck setups on the scales outside of Fernie. There was a bunch of trailers with no trucks sitting at the weigh scales so this season I'm putting load range D tires on my trailer just in case. The old ones are shot anyways.

have you even looked at your ins. papers? i have a 2500 c/c sb duramax and my gvw is 1340 Kgs higher than the net weight, so that leaves 2950 lbs. for cargo. you must have some heavy sleds to barely be able to pack two sleds.
two sleds full of fuel: 1200 lbs
deck: 350 lbs. maybee
so that still leaves 1400 lbs. for fuel, passengers, and gear.
a decent size camper weighs 2000 lbs and thats without water or gear, and they never get hasseled by the scales. rental companies have fleets of c/c s/b 3/4 ton trucks with these campers and no troubles.

I cross the scales, they see what I weigh and sometimes it says stop bring papers.. The first time I had a warning the second time I went into the insurance place upped my gvw big time payed a couple extra dollars and now they can't give me sh*t for being overweight. Did the same for a bunch of our other work trucks. Had to park the one truck at the scales and get a ride down to the insurance shop up the weight, drive back up show the papers and on our way we go.

I have seen a pile of guys get stopped at the last scale before the Valemount Mcbride turnoff after Mt. Robson. Been pulled over and weighed twice and had the deck measured. Never gotten any tickets but a guy that was travelling with us was sent back to AB. We all drive 3/4 tonn trucks with airbags as well. They will take into account all your passangers and gear and run you through the scale. It's a real good time!
