West Yellowstone snow conditions

Hopefully lake is safe!! Last year we marked it across for the happy hour over this time period.

Last year was Cold!!! This year, warm and lots of snow insulating what has frozen so more ice will be very slow to form. Got a report from Kyle B. (local ice fisherman) and he said, Grayling arm 6 inches, Madison Arm 3 inches. He also said he was not ready to go out into the main body by Happy Hour yet as he doesn't feel its ready. We were at -26 this morning, but it might take a few of these mornings before its ready. Your call!

what models

See you when you get here! Always a beer in the shop at Hi Country Snowmobiles!

Cat polaris skidont yamaha

Ah just realized you rent.

How is the snowmobiling going any new expected between now and christmas. Were getting hammered here in washington state and wondering if west yellowstone is worth a trip between christmas and new year. Maybe we should come later! Let me know just wondering what is the range in elevation of good rideable mountain powder.

A few pics from our ride yesterday up around Hebgen. Dug two pits and the avi danger is looking positive. One pit did hold a weak layer toward the bottom that broke during stability tests, however it took some force. As long as this layer or any future layers don't become a problem, we are looking great for the season. Unusual considering last years danger.

5th and 6th shots are sweeeeet. What do you think the average depth is up top?

any chance ace powder or anybody would guide for say 1 day?
3 of us coming out from Saskatchewan. Will be there riding from dec 27 to 30th
We have been there last 3 years. Usually ride Lionshead, To Top TePee.
Riding skill level above average. We are powder hounds not Hi mark hounds. Love tree riding and open bowls.

Send me a pm if interested
Thanks
Darryl

Nice pics Ace. Shoot me a pm on your rates. Going to be there 12-18th of Jan. Group of 7is. Would be looking for one day of guiding. We know the area pretty well but always looking for some sneaky spots. Would also like you to take some time through-out the day and teach us some more avy saftey.
Thanks, Ryan

It was supposed to be the last day on earth, so we went riding! Figured if it was going to be Yellowstone blowing up, get to the high country for a front row seat. Instead all we found was a few more tracks than there had been and lots of fresh powder still available. Merry Christmas sled nation!

so how is the snow in town and at lions head big sky areas? few of us are going out on the 26th of dec. thanks also what about the cops/dnr on loud sleds? got a 1100t with a sie exit straight pipe.........

Went out yesterday, Taylor's is about average... Some great pockets though...

We need a new dump, been a while...

Anyone ridden Lionshead? Or Kirkwood?

Is it as good as Taylors Fork, Cabin Creek, etc?

Went into Lionshead with the Avi guys to get the weather station fixed and dig some pits. Wind scoured! But we have received almost a foot since and with very little wind. Kirkwood was good a week ago, but that was before the wind came through, so not sure now. Got two guides out today in Cabin and Kirkwood, will try to get an update for those Christmas riders. Merry Christmas Sled Nation!
