Beware of Cooke City Motorsports snowmobile rental

This place is very picky on damage to rentals! They go over there sleds with a fine tooth comb with you before leaving and when coming back. Ripping one lug off the track will cost you 200.00 they told us and if any cords are damaged you need to buy a new track. As far as the a arms, if any paint is cracked or missing they consider them bent and will charge you for new a arms and labor. Our group had a very bad experience in cooke due to this place. Any belly pan scratches or hood scratches they also told us they would charge to replace those items. I do see there point to some extent but they act like you need to bring the sled back in better condition than when you took it. This was our experience. Just beware I would hate to see somebody else have the same terrible experience.

What brand do they rent?? We rented a cat 2 yrs ago and had good luck, but not sure what place it was. Thanks for the warning...

Just playing devil's advocate here but have you ever rented a car? It's the samething - same fine tooth comb. I've rented sleds before and thats pretty standard practice. I just so happen to have a buddy rent one from CCM last thursday and they had no problem when they returned the sled that night. If you would have rented from the Exxon you'd would have been put under the same contact - (did you read the one you signed?) Not sure what happened or what damage was done to the sled but calling them names on SW just uncool.

They rent Cat and and yamaha. They are actually the arctic cat dealer there. Our other group rented from bear claw bobb and they had no trouble. I would recommend them.

We just got home from Cooke this morning. One guy in our group had to rent cause his sled blew up on the first day. He rented 3 days, 2 from exxon and 1 from CCM. He had no trouble with either place and we spent the whole trip in the trees. CCM definately looked the sleds over closer, but the sled he rented there was in worse shape than the ones from exxon. If they are charging you for a new part and labor to put it on I would demand the old part. They should have no problem giving it to you if it's junk. I think they might be a little worse this year because it's been such a bad year for them with the low snow and all.

Yes I did read what I signed. The damage my sled had would be equivlent to renting a car and getting a cpl of rock chips by the wheel wells on the fenders and then you having to pay for new fenders for the car. Come on, you have to expect wear and tear things, Just because paint is chipped on a arms does not mean that the a arms are damaged and need to be replaced! come on. charge me a hundred bucks and call it good. I wouldnt care. but charge me for brand new a arms and 2 hrs labor at 75.00 per hr. jeez Im not saying that I do not expect to pay for what I damage. I just dont expect to pay for new a arms and labor, for chips that were on the a arms, because they say that is a sign of them being bent. And do you think 200.00 per lug that is ripped off the track is a fair price? I understand they are trying to keep there sled in good condition. I just do not want anyone else to go through this, sorry for bad mouthing

I rented from Brandon and Sara at CCM a few years back, March03 I think.I thought they were pretty easy going and laid back about everything.I didnt think they looked it over any closer than any other place Ive rented from. They maybe had a bad experience since that time though.I thought they were some of the nicest people Ive met.

The people that ran this place were just dicks!

This is the comment that's bad mouthing, every thing else you said is your experience and your more than welcome to post it, just do it politely.

I just got back from Cooke, I did not rent from them but needed parts that they did not have in stock and Sara offered to take parts off a sled if I could not find the parts to get my throttle lever fixed. So for that I have to give them a thumbs up.

As far as damage to the sled you rented, the paint did not just fall off, you had to hit something. If it was damaged you need to fix it.
But on the flip side, if they charge you for it, they need to replace them.

Cooke City Motorsports

I have not rented from CCM, but I have stopped to buy gear and new parts for the last 6 trips to Cooke City. I thought they were decent people to deal with. Sarah doug through all of their "old" suspension parts to find us a new control arm to get us going again. just my .02

They are great people, who do give of themselves, and of their business for the community. These situations will occur because it is a business and at times decisions are made where both parties aren't happy. I know they aren't ripping people off, they might just really be having to watch their P's and Q's this year as opposed to other years where they may have been more lenient?

sbraaten-I am heading out to Cooke City next week-Can I rent your truck to pull my trailer? Heres the deal though, when I bring the truck back you have to look it over from 50 feet away. :)

haha soo funny.. sure you can rent my truck, i will charge you 200.00 a day then when you get back I will say the tires have more wear than when they left and charge you for new tires when you turn it into me....:face-icon-small-con

sbraaten, buy your own sled and get a taste of just how expensive these new machines are to fix. Or stay home and watch Harry meets Sally on the tube.

If you break it you fix it! It goes the same if I let my friends use my sled!

Why would it be any different?

CCM have helped me out in everyway they can! That is why the do the walk around with you when you check them out, so you know what condition its in before you leave. Cracked paint means that something was tweaked or bent.

Tore lug is just another step into a junk track!

If I believed everything I read here I would be able to go anywhere!

boulder

you know if you dont spin out through any rocks or stumps, you wont have any of that kind of damage.

have bought from them, and they are fantastic people...they will go out of their way to help...

However, that being said, LOADS of people go out, and rent sleds, and return them in less than ideal conditions...it is the norm of people, "it is not mine, ride it like you stole it" It puts them in a bad position, as they have to be the police, and no one ever likes being held accountable...

Dont like it, take pics with yoru phone, as proof of condition when you got it...and your good to go...

For your single bad experience there will be 20 others on this board with nothing but good to say about them. They aren't getting rich on sled rental gentleman. If you can't handle being held accountable for damage that was done to a sled then go buy one. That $50.00 for a few dings and $160.00 a day rental was a heck of a lot cheaper than owning one!!! That's whats wrong with the world today folks. No one truly appreciates service!!! My next sled is coming from CCM simply because of how they have put aside things on more than one occasion to take care of ME a paying customer with a problem. Brandon offered a solution and in 1 hr I was back on the trail both times. I travel 950 miles one way to get there and want to ride when I am there. I thanked Brandon and Sarah and didn't even look at the itemized bill, it didn't matter what it cost when I can't ride. TAKE CARE OF THE LOCAL ESTABLISHMENTS boys or you may find that they WON'T be there next time you do need them......JEESH!!!

Our group has done alot of business with Brandon. Bought parts and clothes and he even let us fix in his shop when he didn't have time. One in our group bought a new sled from him had it all setup ready to go when we got there with just a phone call. They are GREAT people to say the least. And some of us don't even ride a cat or yammi.
