Each year (with the odd exception), the Jackson Hole Snow Devils put on the wildest snowmobile event in the West. Shoot, we'd call it one of the wildest motorsport events in the world. Right up there with Erzburgrodeo and King of the Hammers if you ask us.
This year's event, held March 21 through 24, was no exception
The 2024 World Championship Snowmobile Hillclimbs in Jackson, Wyoming, was a thriller. The race course up Exhibition Run at Snow King Mountain Resort had a great snowpack for racing, leaving a challenging course that saw many high marks in the finals.
Wes Selby kicked finals day off with a win in 600 Stock over Nate Suter and Garth Kaufman.
In 600 Improved Stock, Selby finished second to Russ Tapio. Tanner Thomas rounded out the podium in third.
Justin Thomas had a World Championship weekend that many racers dream of but few accomplish. Thomas' first win was in 600 Mod, with Tanner Thomas in second and Toby Shepherd third.
Pro 700 Stock saw Taylor Lindy at the center of the podium. Dylan Hart finished second in the class with Kyle Heap third.
Dylan Hart won 700 Improved Stock over Taylor Lindy and Tanner Thomas.
Riley Kincaid laid down the only run over the top in 700 Mod to take the win over high marks of Toby Shepherd and Calvin Irmen.
Carl Kuster topped the box in Pro Masters Stock, narrowly beating Trent Handsaker. Brad Sharp finished third.
Handsaker would get redemption with a win in Pro Masters Improved Stock, beating Kyle Tapio by four seconds. Kuster finished the class third.
Trent Handsaker scored a second victory in Pro Masters Mod, beating Dolan Phelps by a second and a half. 64-year-old Faron Gilbert took third in the class.
900 Stock saw Luke Rainey take the win over three seconds faster than second-place Blaine Mathews. Jay Mentaberry rounded out the podium in third.
Keith Curtis found the center of the podium in 900 Improved Stock with a 10-second win over Brennan Mulvahill. Kameron Lindsay took third in the class.
Justin Thomas kept the wheels rolling wtih the fast time of the day in 900 Mod, clocking a one-minute, fifteen-and-a-half-second run up and over the top of Exhibition Run for the victory. Andy Thomas followed with a 1:17.3 time for second, with Brock Sharp finishing third at 1:19.
Blaine Mathews took home a big win in the ultra-competitive 1000 Stock class with a 1:24 run. Sam Peterson clocked 1:24.6 for second place and Jay Mentaberry finished third with 1:28.1.
In 1000 Improved Stock, Brock Sharp flew over the top with a 1:22.3. Taylor Lindy took home second with a 1:31 run followed by Brennan Mulvahill at 1:32.
Pro Open Stock saw Keith Curtis score his second of two wins for the weekend, winning Open Stock with the only clean run over the top. Justin Thomas took second with a high mark, and Mason Rutledge took third, also with a high mark.
Justin Thomas wrapped up his third class victory of the weekend with a big win margin in Open Mod, clocking a 1:16.8 run. Toby Shepherd followed with a 1:20.5 run for second. Andy Thomas rounded out the podium in third with a 1:21.4 run.
Keith Curtis came out on top of the Stock King run-off, and followed that up with Improved Stock King. Justin Thomas ran the fastest time to win Mod King. Thomas bested Curtis for the event's King of Kings 2024 title.
Jadian Pfaff took home Womens Stock Queen and Womens Mod Queen titles, with Sammi McKeachnie winning Womens Improved Stock Queen. McKeachnie left Jackson with the Womens Queen trophy.
In Semi-Pro, Jhett Johnson won both Semi-Pro Stock and Semi-Pro Mod Kings. Harper Handsaker won Semi-Pro Improved Stock King. Johnson left Jackson as Semi Pro King.
