mountainskillz.com), a snowmobile industry elite off-trail instructional mountain riding and motorized avalanche education provider, is proud to announce that Justin Cowett will join them this winter as an assistant riding instructor.
“Justin is one of the most exciting and creative technical mountain riders in the west! We’re extremely excited to add him to our team of instructors. He’ll be on the snow with me just about every day sharing his expertise with our clients,” says Matt Entz, owner/instructor with Mountain Skillz.
Justin will be making the move from Utah where he has been involved in the sled industry for many years as a guide, photographer, and videographer/editor. His tight technical tree riding earned a lot of attention years ago and has always been quite entertaining to watch. As a guide, Cowett found a lot of enjoyment sharing the sport with others. That has generated a passion that continues to grow and evolve with a desire to help others understand the full spectrum of mountain snowmobiling.
“Justin is a natural fit with our operation. Any time that we’ve ridden together we have had a heck of a lot of fun. When my wife (Jesse) and I started Mountain Skillz in 2012, I called him to share the news and told him that I wanted him to join us. At that time I really didn’t have a clue what our business would become and it just never worked out getting him to Colorado,” recalls Entz. “Ten years later we have built a very solid program and operate nearly 7 days a week all winter long. Justin’s talent and fun personality will be a great addition for our clients this winter!”
“What can I say? I feel like I won the lottery. Working with Matt at Mountain Skillz is literally a dream come true for me,” says Cowett. “I’ve known Matt for over 10 years now and some of my fondest snowmobiling memories are of riding with him in the San Juan mountains. I can’t wait to call these mountains home and enjoy the massive storms that they are famous for. I look forward to sharing my expertise with all of you. Whether it be improving your technical riding skills or learning more about backcountry travel and snow safety. My goal is to give you the tools you need to not only become a better technical rider but to also be confident in making the right travel decisions in the backcountry. Justin will be a full-time employee with Mountain Skillz joining part-time assistant instructors Cole Willford and Jen MacPherson to complete the instructor team alongside Matt Entz. In addition to elite riding ability, Cowett also possesses a unique skill set in the photo, video, and editing world. His work in front of and behind the the camera (and computer) has been featured in Boondockers films.
“His ability with media paired with creativity provides us resources that we’ve never had before. We are really looking forward to bringing some ideas to life this winter showcasing multiple aspects of our operation as well as some serious fun. Winter cannot get here soon enough,” concludes Entz.
Mountain Skillz offers instructional mountain riding for all ability & experience levels, motorized level 1 & 2 avalanche safety courses, avalanche rescue, ladies clinics, veterans rides, and additional special events & trainings. A fleet of new Polaris Snowmobiles are available for clients. Private lodging is exclusively available at the Baxterville Lodge for clients including home cooked meals provided by Matt’s wife Jesse and their daughters. Mountain Skillz also includes an online & retail store in town stocked with a complete mountain lineup of Klim gear and many parts & accessories.
