INTERNATIONAL FALLS, MINNESOTA
International Falls has long promoted itself as the “Icebox of the Nation,” the quintessential slogan for a winter destination and the inspiration for Frostbite Falls of Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoon fame. This region atop Minnesota features a lot of snow, plenty of trail mileage and easy access to nearby Voyageurs National Park. Gigantic Rainy Lake straddles the Canadian border and features a shoreline trail as well as an endless expanse of ice and islands. If you like twists and turns, fantastic mid-winter riding is possible on the frozen Rat Root and Little Fork Rivers. If you prefer arrow straight, the Blue Ox Trail runs southwest 75+ miles to Bemidji where there’s a big state of Babe the Blue Ox and Paul Bunyan. Take your pick or trails!
