Although there are many reasons we enjoy attending snowmobile shows, as I walked around the floor of the Idaho Snowmobile Show in Boise last November, eight specific categories seemed to capture my attention.
The beauty of a snow show is that a variety of product is always on display. Snowmobilers usually go into dealerships to purchase specific items … and they know their particular dealership carries these items. But you go to a snow show so you can compare a broader spectrum of items.
The one thing to take note of is you can usually find great deals on snow gear—helmets, suits, goggles, etc. But often these are good deals because you’re dealing with last year’s products. Snow shows make great clearance sales. So some of the items you may see here are not the latest and greatest from the respective manufacturers.
So here’s what caught our eye.
1—Sleds
We were able to climb on the 2019 model sleds to see what looked the best between our legs. Of special interest, we examined the Ski-Doo Summit X 850, the Polaris Pro RMK 850, the Arctic Cat Alpha 800 and the Arctic Cat Alpha 600.
2—Snow Bikes
The beauty of a snowbike is that it seems no two are alike. You start with a motorcycle (brand of your preference) and add a track and perhaps some suspension parts together to custom build your snowbike. It is usually distinguished by the brand of track kit you choose. At the show we had MotoTrax, TimberSled, Yeti and Camso.
3—Tracks
You have snowmobiles and you have snowbikes. So what’s wrong with putting tracks on UTVs and ATVs? We had a Camso track on a Honda Pioneer 1000. Can-Am had its own track on an Outlander and Dennis Dillon displayed a Polaris RZR with a Polaris track system.
