Spare Belt
Weller explained this is a manufacturer product being sold, not really an aftermarket belt. This is true for both the Polaris and Ski-Doo snowmobiles the dealership sells. Every sledder should carry a spare snowmobile belt on his snowmobile and a good time to pick one up is at the beginning of each season. Of course, new snowmobiles don’t come with a spare drive belt so when you buy a sled, that is also a good time to buy a spare belt.
Skid Plate
If you are an aggressive rider or even just like to play off-trail when you ride, a skid plate is a good investment. It basically protects the belly pan area of the sled from just near the front bumper to back behind the front suspension. Weller Recreation is close to the Mirror Lake riding area and we know from personal experience there are plenty of rocks in the area. It’s not too surprising skid plates are a hot item at Wellers. Generally speaking, skid plates are injection-molded and not only offer belly protection but also help the sled slide over logs and other obstacles. Ski-Doo’s skid plate, for example, is 4mm thick and is made of high impact resistant polypropylene. It offers protection for the primary clutch, chaincase and front heat exchanger. Skid plates usually cost less than $150.
Light Exhaust Cans
Weller has two different lightweight exhaust cans that do well for his dealership: Diamond S and HPS.
The Diamond S Stainless Steel Quiet Silencer is made from 304 stainless steel and weighs 6.2 lbs. while giving a 3.5 hp increase. The silencer also meets SAE J-2567 standards and is designed for the Polaris sleds. The Diamond S silencer for the Ski-Doo 850 is made of titanium and saves 11.6 lbs. compared to stock.
The HPS can for Polaris sleds shaves off 13 lbs. compared to stock and offers a 4 hp gain. It has a Platinum Lite Ceramic Coating rated at 2200 degrees F and is double walled for sound quality and reduced vibration. The Ski-Doo version shaves off 9 lbs. compared to stock and boasts a 5-horsepower increase at 7200 rpm and also comes with Platinum Lite Ceramic Coating rated at 2200 degrees F.
