Tip 2 - Keep It Clean
One of the biggest misconceptions about waterproof membranes and specifically Gore-Tex gear is that it shouldn’t be washed or machine dried. The opposite is actually true. As you ride, the microscopic pores in the membrane become clogged with exhaust and oil and dust particles. This reduces its breathability and moisture transmission properties and gets worse over time. Properly machine washing your jacket and bib cleans out those pores and restores the material to factory specs. Prior to washing, turn your gear inside-out and close all zipper and Velcro closures. Velcro hooks can make a mess of things if they’re left unattached to the loop surface. Not all membranes are created equal, so make sure to inspect the care label of your specific gear before washing.
