3—Polaris 850 Pro-RMK 163
This is another all-new model for 2019 … but from the first moment I straddled it at Pinedale, WY, last winter, I knew this would be a very special snowmobile. With some significant improvements to the AXYS chassis, suspension and three-inch track, this sled jumps on top of the snow and carves effortlessly through terrain. It is lighter than anything on the market with a 160-plus track. And it’s also priced lower than the Ski-Doo’s 850 with comparable track, making it competitive on the retail side. Although it’s only ranked third now, I suspect the more time I spend on it, the more I’m going to like it. It too has a great powerband for mountain riding. Retail: $13.999.
4—Polaris 600 Pro RMK 155
For years this has been at the top of my list. It has slipped to fourth mainly because it hasn’t shown significant improvements for 2019. It really is an all-purpose snowmobile that can hop from rough trails to deep powder without skipping a beat. It’s the lightest snowmobile on my list … which will always be a significant factor for me. The 2.4-inch track has great hook-up and stays on top of the snow well. Retail: $12,299.
