The Alpha Boa boot by Motorfist is a boot that simply gets it done. I could not be more pleased with the boot during the 2015-2016 season, when I put over 1,500 miles of trail and off-trail riding on them. Coming from a very stiff boot prior to this one, I was excited to try the new Motorfist Alpha because I prefer a boot with tight and solid ankle support. However, I really wanted something for all-around use.
I can honestly say the boot was better than I thought it would be. It's a great combination of comfort and stiffness. It was not as stiff as my prior boot, but it still gave plenty of support. I could wear these boots out riding all day long, or stand for hours at radar runs or sled races, and be very comfortable in them, which is something I could not say about my last pair of boots.
The styling and fitment of the boot worked well for me. It's not as bulky as others I have tried, and it fits almost like a shoe. The sole of the boot offers plenty of grip along running boards and in the snow, and wear was minimal even after a full season of use.
The dual BOA lace system far exceeded my expectations. It was super easy to use, the laces did not stretch and the dual lace up allowed plenty of support at both the ankle and the top side of the boot. There are several boots on the market like this, but this was my first experience with the BOA system and I highly recommend it.
During the season, I did notice a few things about the boot I would change. I ride with one pair of medium socks, and during the coldest of days (many degrees below zero), I found my toes would get a little cold if I was not moving. Also, on the toe area where some of the stitching comes together, I experienced some of the rubber pulling up from hooking the boot under the toe holds during hard riding. I ride Polaris sleds, though, and admittedly there is less room in the toe area than on some other sleds.
Overall, I would recommend these boots for just about any level of rider and pretty much any snow conditions. From the hard core rider to the leisure rider, to just shoveling snow around the house, they simply get the job done!
