There will soon be a new GPS-enabled trail mapping app called Trail Treker, and it allows you to load your local snowmobile maps onto your smartphone. Trail Treker is also working with snowmobile clubs to help them promote their clubs and local communities. The idea is to drive even more visiting customers to local establishments the way paper maps do, but in a more convenient way.
Rental companies will also benefit from Trail Treker. A color coding system can be used to delineate which trails/areas are easy, intermediate, or only for expert riders. Trail Treker can also create a custom digital overlay of mobile phone service for your area. So, if you’re broken down in an unfamiliar area and there’s no coverage, you can still know exactly where you are, right down to the exact latitude and longitude of your location.
When a club signs up for the Trail Treker service, their map(s) are made available online. The app has a one-time $2 download fee, and your personal club’s map(s) are free with your club password. If you’re visiting an area and do not have the local club number, then each map costs $2 extra.
Once downloaded, Trail Treker works without mobile phone coverage. The app is available for both iOS and Android.
