Q Had my ’04 Polaris 600 out today, about half the time max speed was around 55mph. Then, on the next trail it would have no problem getting to 80mph. I just got the sled so I don’t know much about it. – mcdinko
A New owners of used sleds should do a fitness check of the engine and chassis or have your favorite tech do one for you. You should check compression and do a motor leak down, make sure the fuel system is clean and operating properly, check to see if drive and driven clutches are up to specs (rollers, springs, bushings in weights and sheave surfaces), adjust track tension and alignment and slider condition as well as service the chaincase and adjust chain tension. A full chassis grease and lube should finish it out. This is a service provided by most shops as a preseason check over, but often pertains to a customer that has just purchased a used sled and wants an idea of what his money just got him. – Todd Guthrie, Dyna-Tek Performance
