The new 3 position adjustable coil-over shocks from FOX are a good move for the OEMs. They only have adjustable compression dampening with just three settings; soft, medium, and hard. In reality, not having return dampening is usually not a problem, but perhaps a blessing as most people don’t have enough experience to get this right. The most common mistake is to dial in too much return dampening which results in the shock “packing up” because it does not return all the way before the next bump compresses it again. If this is repeated over several cycles it results in the travel starting further up the shock and giving a harder ride with less travel. Eventually this could even work up the travel and give harsh feedback through the steering. Factory calibrations are usually very good when it comes to rebound, so three compression adjustments with no rebound adjustment should make you look much more competent than getting lost in a multitude of adjustments in either direction.
