no beds no water no problem

No doubt about it, most snowmobilers are NOT picky when it comes to accomodations. There are not too many 5-star hotels on the trail, so we’ll bed down for the night almost anywhere. Many have even napped in the saddle of our sled!

In years of searching for snow I’ve stayed at some pretty ‘sketchy’ places. For us hard working folks, saving a few dollars by staying on a cabin floor, sleeping in our trailers, or packing waayyy too many people into one hotel room allows us to afford one or two more trips a year.

I can guarantee even when you stayed at the worst hole-in-the-wall, you still had fun. Right? That’s one of the best truths about snowmobiling; all the little comforts that seem to be so important the other five days a week become insignificant once you are out on the trail or in the mountains and woods with your family or friends.
At our family cabin growing up all the guys slept out in the ‘doghouse’ - a one-room, plywood wall bunkhouse in the barn with nothing but bunks, space heaters, and sleeping bags. No water, no TV, no iPhones, no problem! It was always the most fun snowmobile-trip nights of the year. We re-lived adventures and stories all night; that’s more than enough for any snowmobiler.

In this issue, we have our annual Getaway Guide with info on places around the U.S. and Canada. All of these locales offer top notch riding and comfy amenities. So don’t worry, there will be insulation in the walls in these places! Check it out on pg. 59. Chances are you’ve probably visited one of these snowmobile meccas in your travels, but there’s much more to learn, even about places you think you know.

Also in this issue is our performance guide. If your goal is to beat your buddies from the lunch stop to the cabin, across the lake or make it the farthest up the hill, then see this section for expert advice, info on 2-stroke cylinders, project sleds and more.

We’ve got two huge performance-oriented comparos, three long-term tests, a tantalizing 4-stroke West Report and dozens of the best new products to check out too. November is coming quickly so get your sleds tuned, trips planned and motors running. We’ll be doing the same and seeing snow soon!
