Yamaha's popular 2003 models -the Yamaha RX-1 and RX-1 Mountain four-strokes- already meet the tougher Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emission regulations proposed for snowmobiles that could take effect as early as 2006.
"The fact the RX-1 models meet the proposed regulations underscores Yamaha's commitment to advancing fresh technology so the sport of snowmobiling continues to thrive," said Snowmobile Product Manager Mike Doughty. "We're proud to lead the industry through our example."
Yamaha spokesmen state that with its new-technology four-stroke engine, the RX-1 gets 30 percent better fuel economy than other performance machines and eliminates the need for two-stroke oil.
Yamaha engineers and R&D teams worked hard to create exciting RX-1 snowmobiles that are both fun to ride and friendly for the environment.
Drawing upon Yamaha Motor Corporation's vast experience in developing powerful and lightweight four-stroke engines, the RX-1 models created a completely new market segment of high-performance four-stroke snowmobiles.
Yamaha spokesmen note that both motorcycle and sledding enthusiasts enjoy the distinctive exhaust note of a four-stroke, and also enjoy the fact that they are quieter than traditional snowmobile engines.
