Yamaha says it will again be sponsoring two race teams - J&M Racing and Troy Pierce and his Pierce racing squad - that performed well last year on the RX-1.
J&M Racing earned the Open Mod title in the Midwest International Racing Association (MMIRA), and Pierce is a two-time Soo I-500 champion who has also won two MIRA class championships - the Improved stock 600 class and Pro Enduro Shoot-Out.
Yamaha says its main focus this year is winning the Soo I-500. Last year, three RX-1s finished in the top 5.
The company also says it will reward anyone who places in the Soo or in key MIRA races this winter on an RX-1. To be eligible, the sled must be stock-appearing with a prominent Yamaha logo. A Soo win would mean $7,500 from Yamaha, while second would earn $2,000 and third $1,000.
In the MIRA Yamaha pledges to pay a winning RX-1 driver $2,000 per victory, with a second place prize of $1,000 and a third place prize of $500. Key victories would make drivers eligible for larger prizes. In the MIRA series, eligible classes are Enduro Pro Mod 600, Sprint Pro Stock 600, Sprint Open and Enduro Pro Am 600.
