yamaha races nytro

Amsnow
As reported in AmSnow's January issue, Yamaha has decided to jump into snocross with its Nytro.

The sled debuted at the World Championship Derby weekend in Eagle River, Wis., with rider Jesse Strege aboard. The sled runs in Pro Open snocross and is powered by the same torquey 973cc engine used in the Nytro and Vector, but with flat slide carbs. That helps the powerplant generate about 130 horses, up from the standard engine's 120.

The sled also has carbon fiber body panels, a new suspension and tunnel, hand-crafted rear exhaust and weighs in at 480 pounds.

Like Ski-Doo's move into snocross about 10 years ago, Yamaha appears committed to winning in the new venue, but realizes that may take some time. Look for the Japanese sledmaker to develop a highly competitive sled over the next several years. Versions of the Nytro are also being run in Japan and Sweden snocross events.
