According to Reuters news services, Yamaha Motor, the world's second-largest motorcycle maker, posted a rise in versus a similar quarter from the previous year. The company profits rose due to riding strong motorcycle sales in Asia and a large special gain on its pension fund.

Yamaha said group net profit for the nine-month period climbed to 35.05 billion yen ($331.4 million), up 47.1 percent from the same period a year earlier.
The company maintains its forecast for a 40 billion yen net profit in the full business year to March 31.

Reuters reports that Japan's motorcycle makers benefited from strong demand in Indonesia as well as growth in China. Yamaha's motorcycle profits from Asia are set to overtake those from North America this business year for the first time.
As the world's biggest maker of module chip mounters -- machines that mount an arrangement of semiconductor parts on circuit boards --- Yamaha is also benefiting from a recovery in the global chip market.
