yamaha announces pricing for 03 models

We're just back from Las Vegas where Yamaha unveiled its new 1000cc, four-stroke performance sled to its dealer network. Let us just say that dealer response was excellent and excited. First, the dealers were very pleased with the new baseline RX-1 being a performance four-stroke based on the hot performing R1 street bike. Second, the western dealers were thrilled when the RX-1 Mountain model was introduced. And, thirdly, Yamaha dealers - and some media members like us - were blown away by the aggressive pricing.
In a surprise move, Yamaha announced incredible pricing opportunities on snowmobiling's all new technology leader, RX-1 snowmobile line. We figured the sled would retail for more than nine-grand, but Yamaha brings in the all-new model for $8,849 (US), just a few hundred bucks over last year's SRX model.
The top line RX-1 Limited Edition with reverse and other trim upgrades in liquid silver will retail for $9,449 (US). The RX-1 with reverse retails at $9,149. If you opt not to get reverse gear, you can always add it later as a dealer-installed option.
The Mountain models will retail for: RX-1 Mountain Limited Edition, $9,449; RX-1 Mountain, $9,149.
Other models - Viper, Venture, SX600R and Vmax 600 ER - had little or no price increases for the new model year. An all-new long-tracked SXViper Mountain was introduced and will retail for $7,799 (US).
Dealer response to the new RX-1 was incredibly positive. Many Yamaha dealers, who also sell R1 and FZ1 street bikes with this same basic engine design, told AmSnow that the new RX-1 engine should be an excellent performer and virtually bullet-proof as the 1000cc bike engine has proven to be a very low maintenance item. The bike requires a valve adjustment after 20,000 miles. The sled should need only an annual oil and filter change. In fact, one dealer told us that he figured the chassis and suspensions would wear out long before the motor ever got tired!
