After introducing its 2002 snowmobile line-up and new SXViper model, Yamaha Motor Corporation announced that it would be expanding its North American snowmobile operations.
"The changes emphasize Yamaha's commitment to the North American snowmobile market," said Mike Doughty, Yamaha Snowmobile Product Manager.
According to Mike Doughty, the expansion is already underway. "Last August, our Coon Rapids, Minnesota office was designated as North American Snowmobile Headquarters (N.A.S.H.)." The move will increase snowmobile engineering and testing responsibilities at the North American headquarters.
The responsibility shift for snowmobile engineering and development to N.A.S.H. will see expansion at the company's 600-acre test site in Minocqua, Wisconsin. Construction of a new building will begin on the site this Spring.
Doughty cited the Minocqua test center's location in the heart of the snowmobile market, proximity to great snow and extensive trail system as deciding factors in the move.
