The World Snowmobile Association (WSA) has announced the postponement of the International Snocross Championship. The event was scheduled for May 6-7, 2000 in Akureyri, Iceland will be postponed until next year.
The Icelandic Motorsports organization, which had formed a partnership with WSA to jointly co-sanction and co-promote the event, had split into two organizations in December- with each vying for the rights to the event, WSA reported.
The International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association also encouraged the postponement. "We've had yet another year of virtually no snow which forced us to look at available budgets, after repairs and maintenance from racing on minimal snow, and at immediate needs and goals," said ISMA President Ed Klim. "It became painfully obvious that any remaining time and finances this season would be better spent in testing on what limited snow is left in preparation for the new models and next season. We want it to be known that we are firmly behind WSA's concept and vision of this race, and will support it and attend wholeheartedly in the future."
Those two developments produced the postponement of the race, according to WSA CEO Scott O'Malley. A rescheduled date for the event will be announced at a later date.
