wpsa adds eagle river to snocross schedule

World Power Sports Association has announced its adding a stop in Eagle River to its snocross schedule for next season. The famous snowmobile specific AMSOIL Eagle River, Wis. Derby Track, which hosts the oval World Championships each January, will now also host a WPSA Championship Snocross race Feb. 23-25.

The Derby Track has been known for it's world class racing for 43 years and Todd Achterberg, the track's general manager, is excited to have the WPSA event on the Derby Track.

"We worked with WPSA to determine a positive time that wouldn't conflict with other races like we had happen last year with the Canterbury race being the same weekend as the Derby," Achterberg said. "We will also have a regional snocross event during Derby weekend to get riders added exposure."

Achterberg also said the track is adding a bonus event at the mid-January World Championship Derby. A "Best of the Best" race is set for Friday at its Friday Night Thunder. This new race will feature the points leaders from several race sanctioning bodies, representing all the manufacturers, coming together to race on the oval.

"Both the Derby weekend and the new WPSA snocross weekends are an awesome deal for snowmobile racing fans and Eagle River is the best place for it," Achterberg said.
