The World Snowmobile Expo 2001 entertained thousands of snowmobile enthusiasts from across the snowbelt and from around the world in West Yellowstone, Montana March 15-18.

Recognized as the "largest snowmobile event in the West," the Expo attracted nearly 10,000 snowmobile enthusiasts over the four-day event.

Snowmobile manufacturers showcased the new 2002 product lines, which included the Polaris Frontier and Arctic Cat Yellowstone Special, two four-stroke snowmobiles. The major snowmobile manufacturers joined dozens of snowmobile aftermarket specialty companies who also showed off products.

Many racers competed for $42,500 in prize money in the SnoCross. Brian Call was the weekend's big winner as he swept the Pro classes, a first for him at the SnoCross. More than 200 racers competed in the Rocky Mountain Cross Country Racing Circuit-sanctioned event, the first event on the circuit's Northwest Nationals Spring SnoCross Series.

New to the Expo this season was the Snow Drag Race, which featured two days of snow drags sanctioned by the Washington State Snowmobile Racing Association. Although it was a first-year event, the drags had 185 entries and again included racers from across the West, as well as North Dakota and Hawaii.

The 3rd Annual Snowmobile Freestyle Air Show was again a crowd favorite as thousands flocked to the specially made launch and landing pad to watch nine competitors perform their best tricks. West Yellowstone's own Courtney Hungerford won the competition.

Next year's World Snowmobile Expo is scheduled for March 14-17.
