woodys traction propels skidoo renegade

WE INSTALLED a full Woody's traction package on our `09 Renegade X. Since many of our test riders are aggressive riders we chose a more aggressive package than a "touring" rider would need.

Installed on our XP were 144 razor sharp Grand Master studs. The 1.25-inch tall track lugs needed 1.325-inch studs and we followed Woody's main template for single-ply tracks. (part no. 286S) We also used the tall 144 Big Nut aluminum nuts to support the length of the studs. These nuts have a nylon insert, go on easily, and don't work themselves loose. To support the studs in the thin single-ply track we used a combination of Double Grand Digger Aluminum backers (support plates) for single-ply tracks along with single aluminum support plates.

To help with our installation, we used Woody's own track hole drill (part no.

Dril-mm-1). This worked well, but to stud numerous tracks with the same bit you may have to do some "creative bit sharpening." We also tested Woody's track tension tool. This tool should be used in accordance with your owners' manual to determine whether or not you need to tighten your track. While many of us like to just eyeball track tension, or worse, wait for the track to ratchet, this is a simple tool to help beginners, perfectionists, or just maintenance minded people keep their track tension proper. (part no. Trak-Tool-1)

Up front we added 8-inch Executive series carbide runners. These sweet turning hunks of metal have 60-degrees of turning carbide on ½-inch diameter runner stock. They ate up the corners and tracked straight.
